Presentation 1 : Azure SQL (PaaS) database vs SQL Server on Azure VM (IaaS) and when to use both.
Abstract: You think you are ready to take your database to the cloud, now what. This presentation will explain the differences between the two SQL Server options and cases when to use both.

Presenter: Zeny Karas is the President of the Edmonton Professional Association of SQL Server (PASS) User Group. She has been working with SQL Server for over 15 years. She has been a Database Analyst, Administrator and Developer. She has been focused on Business Intelligence platform for the last 5 years including data warehousing, reporting services, and data visualization. Zeny is proficient in SQL Server on Azure VM (IaaS) and Azure SQL (PaaS).

Presentation 2: JSON in T-SQL
Abstract: SQL Server 2016 introduced native JSON support with T-SQL. Come learn about how to parse and work with JSON data in SQL Server as well how to export data as a JSON value. We will look at some things I have learned as I have worked with JSON in SQL Server as well as some use cases with JSON in T-SQL.

Presenter: Ian Chamberland has been working as a SQL Server Database Administrator since 2010. He focuses on new implementations of SQL Server environments and improving existing ones. He enjoys working with HA/DR technologies, ensuring performance requirements are met and automating tasks with PowerShell.
