Concepts of Photography: Patterns

Our fourth concept photowalk examining the elements of design will be about patterns. Patterns can be natural or man-made, and are found wherever there are a strong repeated elements, such as lines, colors, shapes, or forms. Looking for patterns sometimes involves trying to see things from an unusual perspective, e.g. very close to the ground. Once you see a pattern, you might want to isolate it from its surroundings to make it stand out, or even seem to go on forever. Check out this link to learn more about patterns.

We will meet in front of the EmiratesNBD headquarters building, along the Deira creek. There should be parking nearby, but you may have to walk a few minutes, so please keep that in mind while planning your journey. Coming by metro? It's a 10-15 minute walk from Union Station. If you need help finding us, call the EPyC hotline on 052 9288432. Once we have assembled, we will walk to the dhow wharfage. For those of you unfamiliar with the area, that is along the creek, in the direction of Maktoum Bridge.

When you are finished, upload your best work here for critique; post images of different subjects to make your work interesting to others. Please only post images where patterns are a prominent part of the picture. We strongly encourage each of you to critique other people's work by first telling us what you like about it, and then what you think could be improved. Remember, critiques are meant to help us improve our skills, so don't take any criticisms personally.

Before we set out, your hosts will say a few words, and then you will be free to wander around, either by yourself with them. The sun will set at 5:31 PM, so if you want to keep shooting as the light fades, consider carrying a tripod.
