Learn about funding an Earthship demo project

The city of Seattle is hosting a series of workshops about the Neighborhood Matching Fund.

I think it would be a perfect way to finance a community project such as an Earthship Visitor Center, big or small.

Our most current project right now is the Beaconship, a tiny Earthship-inspired structure, using at least 4 out of 6 Earthship principles.

Come learn more about the Neighborhood Matching Fund so that you can participate in applying for this grant for Earthship Seattle.

Here's the info about these upcoming workshops, I'm personally going to the one on Jan 14th but you can go to any of them:

Small and Simple Projects Fund

The Small and Simple Projects Fund which provides awards of up to $25,000 has three opportunities to apply. The deadlines for applications are February 3, June 2, and October 6, 2014. For those interested in applying in February, NMF staff is hosting workshops about the guidelines and application process. The dates are as follows:

Garfield Community Center, 2323 E. Cherry Street

Thursday, January 23; 6 – 8 p.m. at Rainier Community Center,[masked]th Ave S

To RSVP, call [masked] or go online at Childcare and interpreters can be arranged for workshop participants who RSVP and request these services at least 72 hours in advance. Additional workshops will be offered prior to each Small and Simple Fund application deadline in 2014.

    1) The Beaconship is not happening this year, the BFF has no room for buildings other than a tool shed for their phase 1 of development. We therefore have more time to plan, and can try and go for a bigger project (ie. a 2-room simple survival) to be implemented in phase 2. I don't know when that would be, ballpark estimate for construction would be: no earlier than 2016. This is still good information to get, and there might be another project coming up soon that would be implemented this year or next, who knows.

    2) I will probably have to leave very early tomorrow, in which case I'd aim for 5:30 to ask the staff some questions and leave shortly after 6, or I may not be able to make it at all, not sure yet.

    Thanks for reading :)

I really want to come but can't make Tuesday Jan 14th. I can go to the January 23rd workshop, though, if anyone wants to join me then.

Can't do the 23rd as I'll be giving an Earthship presentation for Sustainable Ballard, but after this event has expired I can update the date and location for the 1/23 event. Just remind me if I forget to do it by Wednesday :)
