Talk and discussion led by Sadikur Rahman, a local lawyer and council member of the National Secular Society. Sharia Councils have come under increasing scrutiny. The outcome of a Home Office review into 'best practice' and of a Select Committee review are still awaited. There are concerns about any recommendation that will involve accommodating Sharia law. But it is also important to dispel any scaremongering. Sadikur will address all of these issues, with plenty of time for questions and debate.
