Making Computer Music

All sorts of music is written on the computer. What sounds like a full orchestra could be nothing more than a person and an iPhone, it's unreal--and a lot of fun.

We'll go over the basics, share some screenshots and demos of older software, pay homage to the demo scene. We'll talk about making and collecting samples... Tools to collaborate within the same room, or across the world.

And if there is any time left, We'll check out one of the coolest desktop apps for music making: Ableton Live.

You don't have to enjoy techno or electronic music in general to appreciate what you can do, what you can compose, on the very device you're reading this on.

This just popped up in my news feed today. This guy writes electronic music using a DOS tracker. Not Impulse Tracker, like what we covered briefly, but stilll every bit as cool:

Couldn't make it, I'm working 6 to 6 WRF&alternate Saturdays, and it takes me most of an hour to get back to ET. Going to be like that for a month or two, not sure if I'll be able to make any meetings. :o(

The kids loved playing with Bloom this morning. Tomorrow I may let them try Be-Bot.

NICE. Bloom is definitely a favorite with my kids, too. Be-bot is too... and I think it's fun. but the kids definitely know how to take that one to 11 and it's just too much for me ;)

Really bummed I missed this one. I had to work late. Would like to have another one like this, to bring the boys.
