What we're about

Party Games. Strategy Games. Good Times. Fun People. 100% Free.

We are a fun and friendly group of board gamers based in Sherman Oaks/Studio City. We love to play games like Taboo, Sushi Go!, Terraforming Mars, Bananagrams, Qwirkle, Word Thief, Dixit, Pandemic, Settlers of Catan, Bang!, Apples to Apples (and its VERY inappropriate cousin Cards Against Humanity), and Ticket to Ride, to name just a few. Our members love everything from longer Euro games and light strategy games to word games and party games. We encourage our members to bring their own games for variety (and they can teach us how to play too). If you love fun and lively interaction with fellow gamers, then check us out!

About us: We are 4 dynamic and friendly group organizers in our 30s and 40s, and we welcome people who are 21 and up (sorry, no teenagers) who have a healthy love of games and friendly competition. Good sportsmanship is not only appreciated, it's required! The age range seems to center on 30- and 40-somethings, but we welcome all above 21.

Our events will take place in local East Valley locations such as Paper Heroes Games (Sunday afternoons) in Sherman Oaks/Valley Village.

*We hope that you’re mindful of events with waiting lists, and you’re respectful of other members and their time. (i.e., If at all possible, if people are on the waiting list, please change your RSVP to No in a timely manner out of respect for the people waiting. Once you go in and change your RSVP to No, Meetup will send the first person on the waitlist an email to alert them. It will greatly endear you to the rest of the members if you’re considerate. You can also easily change your RSVP using the smartphone Meetup app.)

**Please note, as evidenced by our mention of Cards Against Humanity, some of the language used in the games or by our members is a bit "blue," so if you're uncomfortable with that, this group might not be a good fit for you.**

***We have decided to change our policy on guests, so if you'd like to bring a guest, please do (but please please update your rsvp if things change).

****If you no-show a bunch of times with no communication, we tend to just remove you from our group. We don't like playing the game "Hard to Get." ;-)

*****Sometimes we encounter gamers who don't play well with others. Everyone can have a bad day, but if we have to warn you repeatedly about your behavior, maybe this isn't the group for you?

Febrooary Board Games

Paper Hero's Games

Do you say it like FebROOary, or FebYOUary? We get corrected by our mothers everytime we leave out that first r sound. At least when we play board games, we feel *slightly* smarter!

Come on over to Paper Hero's and join the folks in East Valley Board Games, who (damn the torpedoes!) are still gaming up a storm while masking up KN95-style.

Food---Outside food and drink is allowed in. We just ask as always that you are careful so as not to spill. There's a coffee shop next door, Nat's Early Bite, which is open until 3pm. Please mask up anytime you are not eating or drinking. Just please be careful and don’t spill food or drink on games, or you’ll be expected to replace them, which we think is a fair policy.

Attendance---This is a drop-in event, so you don’t have to stay the whole time. Come for an hour, come for two hours, show up late, leave early. As long as you clean up any mess that you leave, you're good with us and the wonderful store runners, Fawx, Phil, and Bryan!

Guests---Guests are great! Just be sure to note it in your RSVP, and if your guests' plans change, please update your RSVP. Please understand that you are responsible for making sure that your guests wear their masks and spend at least $5 at Paper Heroes.

Parking---Paper Heroes is located in a strip mall on the northwest corner of Burbank Blvd. and Hazeltine Ave. in Sherman Oaks. No, we don't know why Meetup lists the city as Los Angeles.

There are a few parking spaces in the small shopping center, and we would suggest looking for street parking as well. Since it's Sunday, meters will be free. **Important note: It's been brought to our attention that there are a few 1 hour parking signs around the venue, so as always, check parking signs carefully so you don't get a visit from a parking fairy.** We have had good luck parking on the east side of Hazeltine, just south of Burbank.

*For our Regulars, our usual gaming hours have changed to 2pm-6pm due to updated store hours. Also, please read the full event description as Paper Heroes' store policies regarding gaming and minimum purchases have changed.*

Updated store policy---Our venue Paper Heroes is making an adjustment. Due to reduced seating (for more space between people) they are asking that every person who attends our events makes at least 1 purchase or purchases $5 store credit to use in the future (the store keeps an account for you). Snacks and drinks can be part of this, but they're not ideal. It's a gaming store (also comic books!) after all (and was affected by the pandemic).

What we like to do is put aside a list of games we want and buy or order them from PH, rather than get them from Amazon (doesn't Jeff Bozos have enough of our money?) The store runners and East Valley Board Games organizers will remind you at the event. Need some new dice? Card sleeves? Some new MTG gear? Hook yourself up.

Games---Feel free to bring your own games, or just play the ones that others bring. There's always a healthy selection of strategy games, word games, party games, and so on.
