Ghoulish Games and Creepy Costume Contest!
East Valley Board Games is excited about our Halloween event this year! We will have games, decorations, and a costume contest! We'll have awesome decorations (for our regulars, the fog machine just might come out of storage), and prizes for our 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place favorite costumes. If this all sounds SCARY appealing to you, you need to get your skeletal behinds down to Paper Heroes for some good times. Fawx and Phil are once again graciously opening their doors to us for October boardgames! Costume Contest---Our Halloween gaming event is from 12noon to 5pm and as we always say, drop in whenever. However, if you plan to participate in the costume contest, you will need to be in our room at 2pm for voting. We will be announcing the top 3 vote-getters around 2:15. Anyone who attends the Halloween gaming event can vote on the winners. You don't have to come in costume, but we STRONGLY encourage it. We've had some really fun costumes, like The Word Thief, Marty McFly, a Ceiling Fan, Gru from Despicable Me, Steampunk Wonder Woman, a Butterfly, a Taboo playing card, Columbo, and so on. Food---This store doesn't sell food, but they don't mind if we bring in food, as long as we clean up after ourselves of course. There is a coffee shop diner, Nat's Early Bite, right next door, or bring whatever you'd like. Paper Heroes does sell sodas, sports drinks, and water bottles. Just please be careful and don’t spill food or drink on games, or you’ll be expected to replace them, which we think is fair. Games---Feel free to bring your own games, or just play the ones that others bring. There's always a healthy selection of strategy games, word games, party games, and so on. Attendance---This is a drop-in event, so you don’t have to stay the whole time. Come for an hour, come for two hours, show up late, leave early. (Just see above note about the costume contest if it interests you.) As long as you clean up any mess that you leave, you're good with us and the store owners! Guests---We allow you to bring one guest. Just be sure to note it in your RSVP, and if your guest’s plans change, please update your RSVP. If you’d like to bring more than one guest, please message one of the organizers prior to the event so we can check our numbers. Parking---Paper Heroes is located in a strip mall on the northwest corner of Burbank Blvd. and Hazeltine Ave. in Sherman Oaks/Valley Village. No, we don't know why Meetup lists the city as Los Angeles. There are a few parking spaces in the small shopping center, and we would suggest looking for street parking as well. Since it's Sunday, meters will be free. **Important note: It's been brought to our attention that there are a few 1 hour parking signs around the venue, so as always, check parking signs carefully so you don't get a visit from a parking fairy.** We have had good luck parking on the east side of Hazeltine, just south of Burbank.

    What we're about

Party Games. Strategy Games. Good Times. Fun People. 100% Free.

We are a fun and friendly group of board gamers based in Sherman Oaks/Studio City. We love to play games like Taboo, Sushi Go!, Terraforming Mars, Bananagrams, Qwirkle, Word Thief, Dixit, Pandemic, Settlers of Catan, Bang!, Apples to Apples (and its VERY inappropriate cousin Cards Against Humanity), and Ticket to Ride, to name just a few. Our members love everything from longer Euro games and light strategy games to word games and party games. We encourage our members to bring their own games for variety (and they can teach us how to play too). If you love fun and lively interaction with fellow gamers, then check us out!

About us: We are dynamic and friendly people in our 40s, and we welcome people who are 21 and up (sorry, no teenagers) who have a healthy love of games and friendly competition. Good sportsmanship is not only appreciated, it's required! The age range seems to center on 30- and 40-somethings, but we welcome all above 21.

Our events will take place in local East Valley locations such as Panera Bread in Sherman Oaks (Friday nights) and Paper Heroes Games (Sunday afternoons) in Sherman Oaks/Valley Village.

*We hope that you’re mindful of events with waiting lists, and you’re respectful of other members and their time. (i.e., If at all possible, if people are on the waiting list, please change your RSVP to No in a timely manner out of respect for the people waiting. Once you go in and change your RSVP to No, Meetup will send the first person on the waitlist an email to alert them. It will greatly endear you to the rest of the members if you’re considerate. You can also easily change your RSVP using the smartphone Meetup app.)

**Please note, as evidenced by our mention of Cards Against Humanity, some of the language used in the games or by our members is a bit "blue," so if you're uncomfortable with that, this group might not be a good fit for you.**

***We have decided to change our policy on guests, so if you'd like to bring a guest, please do (but please please update your rsvp if things change).

****If you no-show a bunch of times with no communication, we tend to just remove you from our group. We don't like playing the game "Hard to Get." ;-)

*****Sometimes we encounter gamers who don't play well with others. Everyone can have a bad day, but if we have to warn you repeatedly about your behavior, maybe this isn't the group for you?
