This group meets to discuss topics in modern physics including relativity, cosmology, quantum mechanics, Schrödinger's Cat, Theory of Everything, neuroscience and any other topics suggested by our members. We expect the discussion to be non-mathematical, perhaps at the level of Scientific American, or the popular books on the topics mentioned or other similar topics. Perhaps neuroscience would be a topic of interest as well.
We will learn about and discuss the harmonic oscillator quantum computer. It's a simple system that illustrates features common to implementations of quantum computers in general. We will go over the qubit in this model as well as the implementation of the CNOT quantum gate. Background information in quantum mechanics needed to understand the presentation will be included.
