What Developers Need Designers to Know & What Designers Need Devs to Tell Them

If you're a developer who has worked with a graphic designer who doesn't understand WordPress, you've probably been presented with designs that wouldn't work. And if you're a designer who is new to WordPress, you've probably been frustrated by repeated demands for things your client didn't know to ask for, like comment styling, menu drop-downs, or custom post type archives.

This session is intended to be a few short presentations, from both devs and designers, listing some of the issues that need to be communicated, followed by open discussion so we can uncover more information we need to share in order to work better together.

Anca and I both have things we'd like to say from the developer side--are there some designers out there who'd like to step up and share the frustrations and insights of working on a WordPress site?

My client/colleague asked me to do a guest blog post on what I learned on this subject - so I'm looking forward to the slides to jog my memory. I'll give proper credit to the presenters of course....

Lots of good discussion and useful information. Would have liked a presenter to talk about the designer side, but there was a lot of good input from the audience.

Thanks for this meetup event! I learned a lot and am looking forward to seeing the slides since I had to leave early. :(

I am neither a dev or a graphic designer, so I am not sure I am in the right place. I have designed my own websites over the years through templates in different sites. I find WordPress has changed and seems more user friendly, and yet I couldn't get through the first page, About, because an error message says I'll lose the content if I leave the page. This is even after it says saved as a draft. Let me know if I can also get questions answered at a meeting, or it's best if I don't attend.

We always have an open Q & A session for general questions. As for the error message you're getting, it should be possible to leave the page if you've saved the draft after making any changes. (Normally you don't get the error message if you've saved the draft, so I'm not quite sure what's going on there.)

You got it, Sallie. Just what IS going on there. I will try to make one of your meetings!
