Yes, I tend to only use get_posts to get an array of post IDs using the 'fields' => 'ids' arg.  To me the post object and query object are just too big most of the time, and have much more information than I need.  But if caching is easy with this plugin, and if it really works, it might be worth using the WP_Query object sometimes.
