Hello and welcome to Easygoing Bike n'Hike. This group is for anyone who enjoys biking or hiking throughout the San Francisco Bay Area at a recreational and social pace (10-16mph cycling | 2-3mph hiking).
The group invites conscientious and cooperative individuals who enjoy sharing their love of the outdoors with others. We care more about developing a sense of community than about individual competition. However, don't let this easygoing approach fool you! We like a good workout and our events would be best enjoyed by folks in good physical shape, who also like to take their time savoring the view.
All skill levels are welcome, however please use good judgment and discretion when assessing whether you can participate in a given event. Events will be categorized as EASY, MODERATE, and DIFFICULT and the variables used to determine the level of difficulty is based on the assumption that you (the participant) are in good physical health and exercise regularly. (Bike and Hike Categories are detailed at the bottom of this page).
There is no cost to join the group or to participate. The only requirements are:
1) You upload a clear, authentic, facial photo of yourself that makes it easy to recognize you at our Meetups.
2) You answer the profile questions. The answers you give will give me a better idea of what kind of biker or hiker you are. All events are designed to optimize the beauty of the route as well as participant safety so knowing what your limitations are and what you like will help me design events that you and I will both enjoy.
3) Additionally, to insure good attendance, participants wanting a spot on an event may be required to send a 'GOOD FAITH' (GF) Deposit to secure a spot. GF Deposits are returned to participants when they show up. If folks LATE CANCEL (within 36 hours of an event) or NO SHOW, they will forfeit their GF Deposits and will be removed from the group. This is to make sure folks are conscientious about their RSVP's and do not flake out thoughtlessly.
Also note that RSVP'ing NO to avoid Meetup Reminder emails is not appreciated. These messages can be blocked under each member's Emails and Notifications settings (instructions to reset your settings are listed under the Discussions tab). Folks who misuse the RSVP function in this way will also be removed from the group.

EASY (Up to 25 miles and less than 300ft of climbing) These rides are suitable for beginners who are comfortable shifting gears and braking on their bikes. The ride will be on mostly recreational paths and bike lanes with minimal riding with cars.
MODERATE (Distance is 25-45 miles with 300ft to 2500ft of climbing) These rides are suitable for intermediate level riders who are skilled at handling their bikes on not only recreational and bike paths, but are also comfortable riding in traffic and on shoulders of roads where there are no designated bike lanes.
DIFFICULT (Distance is 25 miles or greater and elevation gain is greater than 2500ft) These rides are suitable for intermediate or advanced riders who are comfortable on either/or a combination of steep grades, long climbs and long distances on roads with high car traffic and no shoulders.
EASY (Less than 8 miles , +/- 500ft) These hikes can be on paved roads, fire roads and single track with non-technical footing.
MODERATE (8-14 miles, +/- 500ft - 1500ft) These hikes can be on paved roads, fire roads and single track with steep grades and uneven footing due to roots and rocks.
DIFFICULT (8+ miles, +/- 1500ft) These hikes can be on paved roads, fire roads and technical single track with steep grades, roots and large rocks.

Easygoing Bike n'Hike is a private group (non-members don't have access to trip details or member profiles) organized by volunteers. Attending events is voluntary by you as a member. Participation in any activity with Easygoing Bikers and Hikers is at your own risk.
By joining Easygoing Bike n'Hike as a member you agree to indemnify and hold harmless Easygoing Bike n'Hike, its organizers, co-organizers, assistant organizers, event hosts, and other members from all claims or liability of every type (including court costs and legal fees) for injury or death to any person or for damage to property, loss of personal property or any other wrongful act arising out of or relating to your participation as a member. This agreement applies to you and to other persons (as your guests) who may accompany you in these endeavors.
You also agree to hold the organizers as well as other group members harmless. By participating voluntarily in the group, you expressly waive any and all such claims against each and every other member in the group, including without limitation any and all claims against the group organizer, co-organizers, assistant organizers, and event hosts.
Easygoing Bike n'Hike holds a variety of different activities such as, but not limited to biking, hiking, bicycle touring, bike packing, backpacking, camping, and so on. These events can be dangerous and pose a risk to Easygoing Bike n'Hike members and guests. By participating voluntarily in the group you understand that you are responsible for your own safety.
Any social events that Easygoing Bike n'Hike sponsors and holds such as, but not limited to biking, hiking, picnics, group trips, outings, dining and so on will fall also under the same Disclaimer and Liability guidelines listed above.
