This is a group for environmentally conscious paddlers and folks who have an appreciation for the natural beauty of the area. It's for eco-warriors, water shamans and citizens of all ages. We work for the betterment of north-central Florida's lakes and rivers so that the animals that live here will have fewer dangers in the forms of mostly plastic and foam debris that we gather off of the shoreline from the water. All those who enjoy canoeing and kayaking and would have a couple hours a week to give are welcome! We provide litter removal equipment, such as grabbers, poles and bags, and a dozen service-ready canoes for each of our weekly clean-ups. We have our trips mostly on Sunday mornings, starting at 10am throughout the year, but are always open for suggestions to our schedule, and are often available to do clean-ups at other times and days. Eco-Action is a 501 c(3) organization that was founded in 1993 as a service to the Central Florida environment. Due to a recent move, our services will now be split. Eco-Action has moved its primary location to Old Town, Florida (just west of Gainesville near the confluence of the Sante Fe and Suwannee Rivers) - and because of this recent move, our schedule will be reduced for the remainder of 2017. But, what remains in the Orlando area from our core group of captains - have formed an independent group, called R.E.C.O.N. = Refuse Elimination Conservation Of Nature or Recon - Central Florida - which we applaud and fully support. So, we suggest following them on facebook at https://www.facebook.com/groups/reconcentralflorida/?fref=nf , if you are looking for a clean-up in the Orlando area. While the Recon Group now manages a group of kayaks, we still have a fleet of canoes that we offer to volunteers - in our attempts to remove as much hazardous litter from the local waterways as possible. We always welcome those who bring their own equipment and will provide whatever is necessary to complete a scheduled clean-up. This group is for adults, mostly, that have at least some kayaking or canoeing experience, who enjoy being out on the water with other like-minded individuals, and know that just doing a small thing regularly, can make the world a better place. Our director is a past Sierra Club outings leader, with 40 years of canoeing experience and environmental activism, who works hard to encourage others while having fun being outdoors and on the water.
