What we're about

https://secure.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/a/a/1/3/600_446983539.jpeg

Do you love to travel but you want to do it in a sustainable, alternative and meaningful way?
Do you want to explore natural paradises and immerse yourself in new cultures while learning in an active way?
Do you want to share the experience with like-minded people instead of travelling on your own?

If the answer to these questions is yes, then this is the perfect group for you. If you want to travel in an authentic way and not having conventional holidays, even if you can't go away for months, we will help you to do it here. If you are also an individual who cares for the environment and don't want to cause a big impact when travelling, and if you want to learn something and contribute, you will enjoy our trips.

We organise small group trips (6 - 12 people) throughout the year... from short European city breaks to far less explored places. We have exciting destinations in the UK (Devon and Scotland) and Europe (mainly Spain), but also exotic places that call you for adventure like Peru, Ecuador, Costa Rica, Morocco, India, Nepal or Senegal. In our trips we offer a big array of activities such as hiking, canoeing, fauna&flora identification, birdwatching, cycling, cultural immersion, cultural workshops, local cuisine classes, volunteering, yoga, meditation, etc. We often stay with the local communities in homestay or family-run accommodation so part of our money support these people and their economies. We also try to do our tourism activities in a respectful way towards the local people and their environment. Join our amazing trips and meet new friends to share a real travel experience!

Weekend in Dartmoor- Hiking Adventure

Princetown

£51.70

Our weekend will be based in Princetown, the heart of the Dartmoor National Park. Princetown is a fascinating town dominated by the infamous prison, featured in The Hound of the Baskervilles. It has direct walking access onto the moor and is within driving distance of all other major moorlands walks. More details: https://www.katsadventures.com/events/weekend-in-dartmoor-hiking-adventure TRUE WILDERNESS Dartmoor is a unique environment, with large stretches of open moorland and impressive granite tors, probably the only place in Southern Britain where you can experience a feeling of true wilderness. It also has beautiful lush river valleys and small areas of ancient temperate rainforest, as well as a fascinating history typified by the huge Victorian prison overshadowing Princetown and significant industrial archaeology all over the moor. The trip will be Grade 2/3 – Moderate to Challenging. It is suitable for all walkers with a reasonable level of fitness, typically exercising twice a week, and especially those wishing to go beyond everyday lowland walks without tackling high mountain terrain. We'll spend two days walking, returning home Sunday afternoon. We’re staying in The Plume of Feathers bunkhouse (4people dorms), right in the centre of the Moor. What`s included: Accommodation Daily breakfasts All transportation (From London to Dartmoor and within Dartmoor) Guided hikes Price: Early Bird: £195 applies if paid in full by end of January* The full price of £210 applies if paid in full from 1st of February * this means both parts, the deposit, and the second payment; PayPal fees are excluded Price structure: Please pay the deposit of £50 (+paypal fees) to confirm your place and the remainder of the money at your convenience, but no later than a month before the trip. Bank details: https://www.meetup.com/Curious-Kat-Adventure-Club/pages/6397792/Bank_account/ B&B upgrade available. Costs are £100 for twin and £150 for double. TRANSPORT Princetown can only realistically be accessed by road so we will hire a minibus for a weekend. Pickup and drop off will be in Chiswick, West London, to enable us to get underway and out of London traffic asap on a Friday evening. HIKING Day 1: Moorland March – 15km hike over open moorland to the North of Two Bridges. This is a demanding day-long wilderness walk climbing over major Moorland Tors, each in excess of 500m above sea level. The Tors are granite outcrops revealed by time after ancient intrusive volcanic activity. We will skirt around the Live Firing Ranges of Dartmoor, see remnants of the old industrial past of this area and visit a stunted Oak Woodland (think giant bonsai), now under siege by the fierce Dartmoor climate, which once covered the entire moor. Day 2: Riverside Scramble – 8km walk along the wooded and challenging sides of the East Dart River from Dartmeet. This beautiful walk shows off the wonderful upper reaches of the Dart, we’ll push our way through dense foliage hugging the crystal clear river. We’ll make river crossings using local clapper bridges and purpose made stepping stones and we’ll end up high on the moor with great views back over the river. Progress will be hard and slow but it’s so worth it to see this facet of the moor at it’s very best. We will be back at the minibus by 3 pm latest for the journey home. Terms&Conditions: https://www.meetup.com/Curious-Kat-Adventure-Club/pages/27636688/Terms_and_Conditions/ Cancellations: www.meetup.com/Curious-Kat-Adventure-Club/pages/What_to_do_if_you_can_no_longer_attend_an_event/ .
