Metro Detroit Ecstatic Dance Lab presents: Dance Therapy 🦚 Receive & Release ♥️ Metro Detroit Ecstatic Dance Lab‘s mission is to bring movement to the community to further help people feel freedom in their own bodies. 🌈You do not need to be a dancer to take this workshop. 🌸 Included: Workshop & Vegan Gluten Free food. ☀️ Rates: (Cash preferred) Workshop: $20 Ecstatic Dance: $20 Workshop + Ecstatic Dance: $30 One of life‘s bigger lessons is learning how to receive what is useful, and release what is not useful. In Dance therapy, we will learn how to do so through the movement in our bodies. Licensed Mental Health Therapist and Dance Instructor, Charity Loring, LMSW will guide you through how to experience feeling comfortable in your own skin by learning basic dance movements and how to expand them into your own natural movements by using Cognitive and Somatic Central Nervous System therapeutic practices. Music will be a backdrop in this workshop to experiment with how our bodies respond physically, and emotionally to different stimuli. What is the benefit of this? When you give your body, thoughts and emotions permission to move through you as a natural part of the human condition, with non-judgement, you are more able to learn the process of acceptance and love for your own mind & body. This also leads to more love & acceptance for others. Possible Side effects: a calmer central nervous system, feeling comfortable in your own skin, connection with yourself and others and helpful coping skills. If you would like to take what you’ve learned and bring it with you into our March Ecstatic Dance, it will be directly following the workshop. A vegan snack will be provided in between the workshop and dance itself. This workshop is a prelude to our March Metro Detroit Ecstatic Dance, where you can dance like no one is judging, because no one is. All are encouraged to move freely, because there is no right or wrong way to dance. Ecstatic dance is like a nightclub, but is held in a nonjudgmental, consent-based and substance free environment at The same venue as the workshop. For more info on our Feb. In Ecstatic Dance, you move from the inside out, letting music be your intoxicant (substance & alcohol free). Just as soundwaves can move through walls, shake glasses and water, let them move through you. You can choose to dance, do yoga, contact improv, flow arts (small props only, no fire) or whatever else moves you. You can also choose to not move at all and just be surrounded by good people and good music. Our dances are held in a non-conversational, drug/alcohol free setting with mind blowing music, held at the Lightbox Theater. People may dance solo or together (with consent), as long as everyone respects the Space, One Another & Themselves. 💜 7:45 pm: Ecstatic Dance $10-$25 Sliding scale is based on the honor system, contribute what you can afford. (If you cannot afford the minimum admission, contact us directly via Fb messenger and arrangements can be made.) ED Doors open 7:45 pm. ED Doors close & opening circle begins at 8:00 pm.
