What we're about

This is a group for anyone interested in hillwalking. We aim to be an extended group of people with common hillwalking interests, as it is sometimes hard to find convenient times to go hillwalking with your hillwalking friends (or hard to coerce friends to drag themselves up a hill for you). We don't plan large, organized walks - rather, if anyone wants to go hillwalking, they can schedule a meetup (contact an organizer to become an event organizer), and whoever is interested can RSVP.

As walks are not "led" walks, group members need to (and by going on walks, assert that they do) take responsibility for their own safety and should be comfortable with arranging and participating in hillwalks themselves - for example, choosing suitable equipment, choosing routes and navigating in good or adverse weather conditions.

Please note that no-shows will be removed from the group. Please update your RSVP if you decide not to attend.

Edinburgh: City of Edinburgh Boundary Trek

Swanston Brasserie

I'm posting this in the hope (but not expectation!) that someone might want to chum me round on this trek.
It's a home-brewed "ultra" event to keep me going till the bigger charities restart their own events.
I aim to walk the length of the City of Edinburgh boundary. It'll be 100km (or 62 miles), and, according the the OS, over 6000 feet of ascent. I'm sure it won't feel that much.
It starts at Swanston with Caerketton and Allermuir, where the boundary goes over the summits. This is the only justification for putting it up in the Hillwalkers group. After the first 2/3 hours, it's flat enough.
So, a number of options:
(1) Join me for the whole trek. I expect most people would want to train for it, and there are 2 months till the day. You could fundraise for whoever you want.
(2) Join me for the initial hilly bit, returning to civilization whenever you want, e.g. Harlaw, Balerno etc.
(3) Make a full day of it (daylight hours, anyway!) from the start to Queensferry, which is exactly halfway (30 miles or so). That'll take about 10/11 hours at what I'd call a decent pace. You'd have to be quicker than 3 mph outside of the Pentlands.
(4) Join me at Queensferry with a headtorch for the bit through the Dalmeny Estate woods. Spooky!

Some more details at the link below, including a grainy map (which also includes a little irrelevant bit from my house to the start at Swanston.
