Hello Mud Runners!
This group is for all those who are interested in training for mud runs/obstacle races like ToughMudder/ Spartan Race/ Deerstalker/ Men’s Health Survival of the Fittest/ Total Warrior etc., and also for anyone who enjoys exercising outside or wishes to get in shape to survive the pending zombie apocalypse.

We host 1 or 2 weekly sessions at various locations around Edinburgh rain, hail or snow, with the odd social event thrown in for good measure.
Feel free to invite your pals! Also, if you want to ask the Facebook group members if anyone wants to meet up for a jog, coffee, take part in an event or workshop, don’t be shy to post as someone will almost always take you up on your offer.
About me (Dominic, the Organiser):
I’m an ex Muay Thai fighter and I coach at Muay Thai and Movement, Strength and Conditioning HeadHunters Martial Arts Academy (beside Ocean Terminal). I’m also very experienced in obstacle racing and I'm currently in training for the 24hr Worlds Toughest Mudder in the Nevada Desert, Las Vegas this November.

I'm happy to say that some of the high-level regulars now coach regular sessions so there are now also training sessions during the week. Thanks to Sheila and Nicholas! Gabi also coaches an occasional outdoor yoga session so keep an eye out for the next one.
The workouts will last approx. 1 hour and with on average, a 50/50 split between running and exercise drills, although some will be more exercise focused and others more running focused. There will also be crawling (yes, on the grass/mud!), animal inspired movement and partner drills to keep things interesting and I guarantee you, no 2 workouts will be the same. Having done a lot of these races before, I’m very aware that just being able to run long distances is of limited benefit as you need a good level of strength to conquer the obstacles and therefore the workouts will have a high focus on full-body strength building.
A suggested £1/person voluntary donation per session.
The charitable donation goes to Tribe Animal Sanctuary Scotland (TASS) in South Lanarkshire. We are a 100% volunteer run club and our only costs are the Meetup .com fees so almost all of your donations go towards helping take care of rescued animals (primarily farm animals, including hairy coo's!) that would have otherwise been sent to slaughter. We will organise the occasional visit so you will be able to see exactly where your money is going and make some hairy pals as well! (Please note, it is a very new organisation and their charity status is currently in the application phase.)
Give it your best and train hard, but in a light-hearted, sociable manner and offer encouragement and support to your training partners.
- As with any form of exercise, please consult your GP before taking part. If you have any injuries, please let me know before the session starts so alternatives can be given. By attending a training session you are accepting that, as with any form of exercise, there is a risk of injury and you solely, are responsible for your own safety and well-being.
- Any under 18's are to be accompanied by a responsible adult.
