Monday nights are Yoga Therapeutics. Incorporating all the aspects of yoga - asana movement, pranayama, stretching, strengthening, meditation and relaxation - the focus is on deepening the connection between body and mind and responding to what the body needs. The intention and aim of the practice moves away from strict alignment and practicing for progress (ie: must get stronger! must get more flexible!) and instead listen to the body, hear what it needs, and respond. To work with the body to help it heal, and then ultimately strengthen.
The class is structured like any vinyasa yoga class, with a full 75 minutes of movement and asanas (and of course savasana). The difference is that the sequences are designed to have a therapeutic effect on the body and mind, targeting specific areas of the body or common afflicitions of everyday life: chronic exhaustion or just feeling burned out; tight legs from too much running / cycling / walking; tight shoulders and shallow breathing from habitual desk-sitting and smartphone use; frayed nerves and low-lying anxiety from just having too much on.
The classes are based on Tina Nance Yoga Therapeutics and Traditional Chinese Medicine 5 Phase Theory.
