CANMORE WALKING WEEKEND Sat/Sun, June 20/21, 2009

The aim of this event is to offer an opportunity for an enjoyable experience while meeting other hikers and discovering Canmore with its access to a wide range of trails and mountain routes in the Bow Valley.

Hiking clubs everywhere should note these dates when planning their Spring program as many clubs aim to organize a trip, perhaps annually, to hike in the Canmore area. Clubs may want to schedule their own hikes on either or both days, giving a bit of a boost to the image and importance of walking and hiking to communities across the province, as well as exploring some new hiking experiences.

Alternatively, join a group coordinated by Trailminders of the Bow Valley, one day-long and one half-day hike on each day, group limit of 20 on each trip.

On the Sunday, June 21, there will be an opportunity for club members to meet over a bowl of meat or veggie chili from 4 – 6pm to end the day.

For those interested in planning for the whole weekend, in addition to B & Bs and motels (group discounts being sought), there are trailer park, campsite and hostel facilities nearby.

Details will follow but if further information is needed meantime, please contact Trailminders at trailminders@yahoo.ca, and please provide club mailing address.

Attached is a summary of ten suggested hikes, some well-used and others lesser known, with all offering views over surrounding natural areas. Access may be limited through trail conditions or wildlife closures.
