Dreambox, Khan Academy, and other adaptive learning products have led some schools to create "Learning Labs" - where some traditional classroom instruction is replaced or supplemented by learning on computers.
While it seems clear that this is an effective way for schools to reduce personnel costs, does the blended model work well for students?
Join Glenn Moses, Director of Blended Learning for Denver Public Schools and Don Reynolds for a discussion on blended learning in the classroom. We have a few teachers lined up to tell their of their blended learning experiences. We are also pleased to have Capt Hanna Yang, USAF, USAFA, USAFA/DFL present about how she teaches at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs.
How can blended learning make a difference? We'll be having Angela Maiers speak via Skype. She runs http://Choose2Matter.org - an international, student-driven blog with over 1 million student bloggers, 900 teachers and extensive support from multiple organizations to end bullying, and build student confidence. See her TEDTalk here (http://app.talkfusion.com/fusion2/player5/tfshare.asp?LGGDE-MJFKDJ-647r-647r#.TvN5V393wtk.gmail).
We'll also start off the night with a presentation from TeacherMap and 360Folio, the first & second place winners of Startup Weekend EDU Boulder!
As always, we'll start with beers, appetizers & mingling at 6:30, and get the talks started at 7pm.
