What a great meetup last night! Four solid presentations on technologies to make classrooms and education better. Apprion blew us away with adaptive online learning that is free to all schools; Kajeet showed us that it really is possible to manage mobile devices and internet cost-effectively with school-selected privacy controls; ForeFront Math rocked out a fantastic, easy-to-use gradebook that goes well beyond Math needs and specifically for K-2. Companies & Education can sometimes be a tough mix, but it was evident last night these presenters really want to help you and your students succeed. Reach out if you think their solutions might help your classroom.
Want to teach entrepreneurship, or are you an entrepreneur looking to get involved in Education?
Hot off the heels of Startup Weekend EDU success, Nicole Glaros (TechStars) and I have been inundated with requests from teachers on how to teach entrepreneurship, or queries from entrepreneurs looking to get involved in the Education space. We've created a Google Group for anyone to join who is interested in:
a) teaching entrepreneurship to students
b) wanting to get into entrepreneurship in Education
If that's you, sign up and post your questions, needs, etc. If you know someone who fits this description, share the link! Nicole & I will be reading, curating and figuring out next steps (e.g. workshops, events, etc) that meet the needs and themes in the discussion board. Ed Tech Meetup runs monthly events and larger events like Startup Weekend EDU to serve our community (i.e. YOU!), so this Google Group will help us better understand what you're looking for.
Tokken Beta Testing
Tokken is a startup that allows you to create a swank mobile page with audio recording to tell the world about anything! Possible Educational uses have been suggested, such as:
...but your imagination is the true limit! They have released a beta access and would love to hear your feedback. Use the code "edtech" to get free access.
Thanks to Scrib
A big thanks to Scrib for letting us use their space, and for donating a 1 month all access pass to the first place winners of Startup Weekend EDU.
Looking forward to seeing you all at our Blended Learning Meetup on Nov 7 in Denver, which will feature Glenn Moses from Denver Public schools and teachers talking about Blended Learning in their classrooms. Our second Special Guest, Angela Maiers, will speak via Skype to share about the #youmatter blog with over 1 million student bloggers and 900 teachers involved. If you want to present, contact me.
Until then (and beyond!), keep doing great things!
