What we're about

This is a group for anyone interested in the production and performance of electronic music. All skill levels are welcome. This group was created to help connect electronic music producers in the Washington DC/Baltimore area and beyond. Whether you are creating modular synthesizer patches or pushing buttons on a sampler, we'd like to connect with you. We'll meet once a month to share music, synthesizers, sequencers, production techniques, performance tips and more. We may also check out new products and have an occasional jam session!

Q. What should I expect? A. Expect good conversation and the sharing of music, ideas, techniques and more. Maybe you're simply curious about electronic music production. Maybe you're a professional producer looking to share your knowledge. All are welcome! Q. What should I bring? A. Please bring old or new gear that you have fallen in love with or find very useful in your music process. If you use a DAW (Live, Logic, ProTools, FL Studio, etc.), please bring a laptop to share/demo ideas, music, plug-ins, etc. Whatever you choose to share from your creative process is fine. Portable synthesizers, effects pedals, samplers, groove boxes, field recorders, mixers, MIDI controllers, DAW plug-ins and iOS apps are good examples. Q. Should I bring monitors, audio, MIDI or USB cables? A. We have an RCA cable and two 1/4" TS cables. However, it's always best to be prepared. It doesn't hurt to throw an extra cable or two in your bag. If your gear requires USB, MIDI or any gear-specific cables, please bring them. Q. I work with video and music. Am I welcome? A. Anyone working with video in conjunction with electronic music is welcome! We have an HDMI hook-up and a large screen for display purposes. Q. Are children welcome? A. Yes. We recommend children be no younger than five years old. ALL children MUST be accompanied by an adult for the duration of the meetup. Q. Will there be refreshments? A. Feel free to bring PACKAGED food or drink items; e.g. chips, pretzels, dips, pastries, soft drinks, wine, beer. Q. Can I make announcements about upcoming music events and performances? A. Absolutely! We want to know all about upcoming events and performances, especially by members of EMPS. Q. Can the Electronic Music Production Society help me with Gear Acquisition Syndrome (GAS)? A. No. In fact, becoming a member of EMPS might lead you further down the rabbit hole. ; )
