I have a plan for our first meetup where I could show how some common devices work and yet can be improved easily.

We discussed the following topics: VISA: Voltages In Series Add
Polarised components: LED, meter, batteries, motors
Use of Digital Voltmeter for Voltage and Resistance measurements
    AC voltages
    Component symbols
Plug Top Power supplies [PTPS]: what is in them and why
How to check your batteries and PTPS
    Resistor colour code
Regulator circuit that copes with AC OR DC input voltage

    Resistor colour code
    Circuit symbol table from IET

The room was quite suitable for our requirements. It is likely that the next meetup is in the same place at the same time however I am investigating the use of another venue in Altona. As we are now in the local school holidays it is possible that we have a meeting in the middle .......

Sorry Mike it's illegal to measure AC voltages without a licence

So hi there - I have arranged a small room in the local library. It's book for the 2 hours shown which will include my set up time. Our meetings could well be more often than once a month and at a different location. I have a plan to use an existing facility when the details are sorted out. The venue location and time are not fixed in stone. We can adjust to suit our availability. The library is a safe - low cost intro situation with whiteboard, table and chairs. It is next to a shopping mall with car parking and bus links. There might not be much (any) soldering on the first meetup but I plan to have other connection methods available. Feel free to chip in (!) There will be a few blinking lights.

So the initial parts and bits to demonstrate and talk about are collecting in my back room. If you have any broken bits that you feel are light enough to bring along we can examine and talk about them. Just about everyone knows some keywords about electronics and I plan to have this space as a safe place to check out ideas and create or modify things.

Thanks Richard for the youtube link - I wondered where it was going at first - but it finishes well !
