Join us at our new home in downtown Austin! This month's meetup will be hosted at the new Galvanize (http://www.galvanize.com/campuses/austin-2nd-street-district/) campus in the 2nd street district.

Please join us for food, drinks and enlightenment. We'll be migrating over to the Gingerman (http://thegingerman.com/austin/) for an informal social event after the night's talks. Please see below for the lineup.

I Can Write My App With No Handlebars

In Ember, Handlebars is a small, Lisp-y templating language we use to express our application's user interface. We use Keywords, Helpers and Components and other primitives to build upon this language, and the result of this is a larger vocabulary in which we can declare our intent much more clearly. Let's explore how Keywords and Helpers augment Handlebars, and cover techniques and patterns for creating our own Helpers in good taste.

In this talk, we'll cover everything from the Rule of Least Power, declarative templating, as well as patterns and anti-patterns of creating helpers.

Lauren is a full-stack Senior Engineer at Netflix and DockYard alumnus. Although formally educated in Finance, she has been involved with user interface and experience design for more than 5 years. She is an active contributor to the Ember.js community, and a regular speaker at leading JavaScript and Elixir events and conferences.

Fireside Chat with Lauren Tan

Our inaugural Fireside Chat in which we will take questions from all over the Ember community and ask them to Lauren. Who knows what will happen. Do you want to know what her favorite sweet moves are in her text editor? What is her favorite Pokemon character? What's the real story behind that pirate hat? Send your question to us to find out! To top it all off, we're taking questions from everywhere and posting the video to the internet for all posterity.

In order to submit questions, tweet @EmberATX (https://twitter.com/EmberATX) with the hashtag #firesidechat. We'll be accepting questions up through the 25th!

Don't forget to thank our wonderful sponsors!

We'd like to give a big hug to our new venue sponsor, Galvanize (http://www.galvanize.com/campuses/austin-2nd-street-district/), for hooking us up with a super sweet downtown location. We're incredibly excited about the new space!

O'Rielly Media (http://www.oreilly.com/) sent us a big ol' box of books that we'll be raffling off a few at a time until we run out :) Don't worry, there are still several coloring books (http://shop.oreilly.com/product/0636920050223.do) left!

Parking

There is a paid garage in the Galvanize building that has reasonable prices after hours. We also recommend taking public transit, looking for street parking, parking in the surface lot at Guadalupe and 3rd or using the City Hall or Violet Crown parking garages.

How to find us in the Galvanize building

Take the elevator to the second floor to check in at the front desk. They will direct you to the correct lecture space.

We'd love to hear from you!
