New Volunteer Information for Open Table Kitchen (Dupont Circle):
Please print off and bring with you! Thanks!!!
Below is the new volunteer information we have collected to make sure you have a pleasant and spiritually renewing time at Open Table Kitchen’s Sunday lunch program. The lunch preparation takes place at the back of the church sanctuary in one of the row houses in the back. Also in the back is an Urban garden where there are herb gardens, vegetable plots, and picnic tables.
Where to meet your group:
Probably the best way to find your group is to stand at the big sanctuary doors at 21st and P St. To your right (about 20 feet) you will notice that there are some smaller doors to the church office and educational wing/classroom space. You can enter those doors and go up a floor. Then go right to the Bird Room which is a community room. We can all meet there for now. Someone will go past the smaller outside doors just to make sure we got everyone.
If you are late or can’t find the group: For July, Melissa the Open Table volunteer Coordinator will haveher cell phone. 860 303 9894. Larry from our group will have his cell phone also: 571 223 9037. Once the group gathers we’ll walk through the main sanctuary to the back where there’s a door to one of the rowhouses. If you are late, you can try and just walk through the sanctuary to that back door. If you get lost ask for directions or call Melissa or Larry.
Schedule and what to expect:
Please arrive at 12:30.
The volunteer coordinator will show the group all the supplies. The group will make sack lunches, coffee, etc. and prepare lunch.
1-1:30 lunch is served.
The clean-up period is between 1:30 and 2:00. There’s approximately 30 minutes of clean up.
Please note in the back we also have an urban garden. We are growing flowers and vegetables, many of which will be used in meals for Open Table. Helping to keep the garden thriving are our honey bees. We have 4 or 5 hives. So anyone with an allergy please be aware.
Children are welcome as long as the parent supervises their child. Please also tell the volunteer coordinator on the meetup site or Melissa if you are planning on bringing a child.
Please be aware that the Red Line is currently under repairs at times during the weekend, so please check the metro website to find out if this will require you to adjust your regular schedule.
