Are you ready to take the ALL TRAILS 80-MILE CHALLENGE? We've designed a series of 13 hikes that cover all 80 miles of trails (actually 80.97 miles) within Forest Park, the largest forested natural area within a city limits in the United States. These hikes will be repeated throughout the year so you will still have a chance to complete the Challenge even if you don't start at the beginning.
We will meet at the Springville Rd Trailhead and hike the Springville, Wildwood, FL7, Hardesty, Gasline, and Oil Line trails. It's possible that the start location will change if I can scout out parking somewhere along Hwy 30 (St. Helens Rd) and a safe way up and down Gasline which is rather muddy and slippery in winter. I bumped up the start time because last week I ended up driving home through rush hour traffic and I'd like to avoid having to do that again. We will be following the route shown on the map below.
This is Portland so expect rain and mud. Wear waterproof or water resistant hiking boots and bring your trekking poles. Wear adjustable layers. Bring lunch.
To reach the trailhead from downtown Portland, take Hwy 30 (St Helens Rd) for 7.2 miles from it's intersection with I-405. Continue past the St. Johns Bridge and turn left at the traffic light immediately after the bridge. This is NW Bridge Ave and the northern ramp to the bridge. Take the first right onto NW Germantown Rd and follow it for 2.1 miles until its intersection with NW Skyline Blvd. Turn left on Skline Blvd and go 0.8 mies to NW Springville Rd. Turn left and continue for 0.1 mile to reach the parking area. Remember to take all valuables with you and leave nothing in the car.
Please remember that I'm simply a volunteer inviting others to join in on a hike, I'm not a professional guide and I receive no compensation. I must insist that everybody be responsible for their own safety and well-being.
No dogs, please.
