“What is a Living Wage? And, Why Do I Care?” will be presented by Mark Hebbard, Living
Wage Just Economics Certification Program Coordinator, at the Sunday, August 18th meeting of the Ethical Society of Asheville, 2:00-3:30 PM at the Friends Meeting House, 227 Edgewood Road in North Asheville (off Merrimon Avenue near UNCA). Hebbard will cover a little JE history, as well as, JE’s three main areas of work: Policy Advocacy, Living Wage Employer Certification Program, and Community Education and Leadership Development. In addition, he will touch on the effects of Living Wages on our community and share a list of the businesses that are currently
Living Wage Certified. Finally, he will discuss JE’s partnership with the Ethical Society in “BUYcott’s”, potential volunteer opportunities, and our upcoming poverty simulation..

As a Marketing graduate of Eastern Carolina University, Hebbard came to work at Just Economics with an extensive background in sales, marketing, and promotions. He has a long list of previous work history including Kodak, NASCAR, Pepsi, Proctor and Gamble, as well as, owning his own business. This provides him with a unique window into our local employer’s point of view. Mark
has also traveled the globe and the US extensively. He is excited about the opportunity to focus on Asheville and work with local businesses in creating a sustainable local economy.

There will be a discussion period following the presentation. Following the meeting, there will be time for informal conversation. All are welcome!
