  • Make Your Company Conflict-Competent Workshop featuring Tim Hicks
Bring two or more people together and conflicts will happen. Conflicts, differences, and disagreements are unavoidable parts of any relationship⏤particularly within companies. Conflicts, when not handled well, can be very disruptive and expensive to a business. When handled properly, they become an organizational asset that can be used to improve relationships and systems. This workshop will introduce you to the topic of conflict and conflict resolution. In it, we’ll explore the sources of conflict, how and why we respond to conflicts in the ways that we do. Tim will show you how to design and build effective conflict management systems in order to prevent conflicts. Then also providing effective strategies and methods for your management team to use when conflicts arise. The goal of this workshop is to make your organization more "conflict-friendly" and "conflict-competent." ⏤ Tim Hicks has worked in the conflict resolution field over the past 22 years, mediating of hundreds of cases, facilitation of group processes in the public and private sectors, as well as teaching and training. He spent nine years as the first director of the Master's degree program in Conflict and Dispute Resolution at the University of Oregon, teaching, and mentoring students while building the program to a position of national prominence. Prior to his work in conflict resolution, Tim co-founded and managed two successful businesses, one of which grew to 150+ employees. From these experiences, he has a first-hand understanding of workplace dynamics and stresses. These factors challenge management and supervision, often applying pressure that strain business partnerships. In addition to a Master’s degree in Conflict Resolution and 600+ hours of additional training over the years, he continues to read in and study the fields of conflict, negotiation, and conflict resolution with an abiding passion. • Design Thinking 101: How To Use Design Thinking To Solve Any Challenge
⭐️⭐️⭐️Get your Early Bird Ticket for just $35 until October 5th⭐️⭐️⭐️ Design thinking can be described as a process, a toolbox, a framework for innovation, a human-centered system… but what does that actually mean? In this workshop, we’ll bust through the complexity and focus on how you can use design thinking to solve challenges that are relevant to you. You’ll learn the purpose of and strategy behind design thinking, participate in the process, and leave equipped with tools that represent best practices in the design thinking industry. At the most basic level, design thinking is a people-centered approach to problem-solving. Championed by companies like IBM, Google, General Electric, and LEGO, design thinking can be used to solve challenges across a wide variety of industries. No matter what your current approach is: agile, waterfall, or even developer anarchy, there are ways to integrate design thinking tools to keep your practice user-centered and collaborative. Elise will keep you moving in this workshop geared at introducing design thinking and showing how it can be applied. If you have been wondering about what design thinking is and if it might be useful to you, this is the perfect place to find out. In this supportive environment, we’ll practice one of design thinking’s central tenets: fail early, fail often. Elise’s Bio: Elise Lockwood is the Operations Partner for DORIS Research, a design thinking firm specializing in workplace research. Her work takes her across the US, conducting the design thinking process with hundreds of stakeholders each year. She received an MA in Emerging Media Design and Development from Ball State University, and a BA in English Writing and Theatre from DePauw University. Before becoming a design thinker, Elise worked in arts administration and is still a champion for creativity in all industries.
