  • Futures Thinking: Mobility

    Qeske Maastricht

Sven Reulen will give a short presentation about the current state of Mobility in Society. Think of Geographic mobility as the measure of how people and goods move over time. We will use design thinking in a workshop format to practise futures thinking (Facilitated by Niels van Reijmersdal). Thinking and discussing how technology (software and hardware) impacts the future of mobility and how may it change our daily lives. Futures Thinking is a method for informed reflection on the major changes that will occur in the next 10, 20 or more years in all areas of social life, including education. Futures Thinking uses a multidisciplinary approach to pierce the veil of received opinion and identify the dynamics that are creating the future. The meetup is hosted by StraTopo a Geo-Tech Startup operating in the Qeske community of Maastricht. You will find us on the second floor of the Entre-Deux.

  • Dockerize your application

    Traveltainment GmbH

In this meetup we will take a closer look at Docker. What it is, what it does and how it can be used to build self contained app containers that can be deployed in different environments. We will start by taking a look at a simple "Hello World" application and then step by step move toward cotainerizing a web app, which will be comprised of multiple containers. No prior knowledge of Docker is assumed.

  • Introduction to Test-driven development (in Javascript)

Practical TDD workshop: After the high-level theory you will implement a piece of code using the test-first approach. TDD for beginners in JavaScript. Theory: Overview of everything you need to know about test automation. What is up with all those pyramids? Why is it important? Fun? What skills and tools do I need? But also the big picture! I am going to share the most important parts I have learned in my 8 years of Agile software development when it comes to test automation. With JavaScript examples where possible. Prerequisites: • Basic programming knowledge (if/then/else, variables and functions) • Bring a laptop • Install a Text editor (or IDE, I will be using the free Microsoft Visual Studio Code (https://code.visualstudio.com/) (works on Mac, Windows and Linux)) • Install a recent version of Node.JS (https://nodejs.org/) • Install a recent version of Git (https://git-scm.com/) About the location: We will have this great Meetup in the headquarters of Synaix, one of Aachen's hidden champions for IT operations and scalable infrastructures. It is located very close to Toledoring, and easily reachable by car. The Busstop "Süsterau" is directly located near the Süsterfeldstraße. If you are in need of a ride, just use the comment section. We are very much looking forward to seeing you there.
