If you aren't too tired from celebrating the night before, and are a hockey fan, come join me on New Years Day to watch a great tradition, the annual outdoor hockey game put on by the NHL.
This year's Winter Classic, will be played at Michigan Stadium (also known as “The Big House”). The two teams playing will play in front of[masked] in attendance.
Furthermore, the matchup between teams based in the U.S. and Canada makes it the first international Winter Classic game, and what better teams to choose for the event than two of the Original Six with a rivalry that dates back to 1927, the Detroit Red Wings and the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Detroit and Toronto are two of the most successful teams in NHL history, with 11 and 13 Stanley Cup titles, respectively, with only the Montréal Canadiens hoisting Lord Stanley's Chalice on more occasions.
So come watch this game of elements, and how it used to be played...OUTDOORS! And don't forget to wear your toque!
Guy Lafleur "cleans" the ice the way we did growing up...with shovels.
