Talk functional

We are an informal group. Everyone is welcome. If you haven't programmed before we will be happy to show you the ropes. If you have only programmed with objects before, we will explain Monads to you. If you know what functional programming is about, we will ask you lots of questions?

We meet and discuss a wide range of topics, mostly related to programming, in particular functional programming. In the past we have discussed and explained Monads, Unit testing, Generative testing, Clojure, Haskell, immutable data stores.

This time we are going to focus on the age old debate of Static vs Dynamic typing. Which one is better? When would you use Dynamic typing, does it help or hinder? What about Dependant types, will they have a place?

Thanks - didn't want to lug it out for nothing!

Surely laptops have side-effects, and are therefore unsuitable for Functional Programming? ;-)

I should like to attend tomorrow evening, if I can (no promises...!) Whereabouts in the City Gate Hotel will you be at 7pm, please? Thanks.
