Daytrip Luxembourg

Join us for a full daytrip to one of Europe’s most beautiful capitals, Luxembourg. With a population of just 103,000 inhabitants it is also one of the smallest.  Still its history is rich and impressive, and nowadays it houses many important institutions, banks and firms.  During this day you will enjoy a guided tour by bus and foot, walk through the UNESCO-protected casemates, and have the option to join an exclusive visit to the Ducal Palace (limited spots!).  There will be plenty of time for a nice lunch, shopping, discovering the city and a diner.

We leave around 08h00 from Place Schumann, followed by a quick stop near the VUB campus.  We travel by comfortable and modern coach.  Since it is a long day, we’ll have two drivers so we can stay in Luxembourg for dinner until we leave around 20h30 (return at 23h00 at the earliest).  The trip takes about 2,5 hours and we’ll make a stop halfway for some refreshments.

We start our visit to Luxembourg with a professionally guided tour around town. The city is built on different plateaus that are connected with bridges over beautiful parks and lower town neighborhoods. We visit the European district Kirchberg, with institutions such as the European Investment Bank and the European Court of Justice, before coming back to the inner city center that is built on a plateau surrounded by steep cliffs.

After about 45 minutes we’ll leave our bus and explore the old town by foot.  A second guide will join us to show the most beautiful corners and attractions of the picturesque center, such as the Place d’Armes, Constitution Square, Government District, Corniche, Monument of the Millennium, Old Town, Palace of the Grand Dukes, and Place Guillaume II.Our guides will also take us to the best spots for some stunning views of the fortress walls before we explore the world-famous casemates.  The Bock- and Petruss casemates are Luxembourg’s top attraction. The underground galleries are listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and play a key role in Luxembourg’s history as a fortress city.  Entrance fees for the Bock casemates and a guided tour are included. If you would like to see the Petruss casemates, you can do so in the afternoon on your own (they are quite different!).

We will have lunch in the town center, after which you have several hours of free time.  You can do some late summer shopping, visit one of the many museums, or take a nice stroll in the parks around the city.  In the late afternoon you can join the optional guided tour in the Ducal Palace.  This building has one of the most beautiful facades and a majestic interior.  It is only open during the summer months and Expat Club Brussels has arranged an exclusive guided visit of one hour.  Please note that the number is limited to 40 only.  You can book this visit separately on Meetup (+€9). For dinner we will split up in smaller groups and choose a restaurant of our choice. There are several nice terraces around the old town, so surely you’ll find a good place to eat.

I just joined to this city trip today... I should have looked at it yesterday!! but anyway, it sounds exciting. I have a question, should we not be more than 20 people, will the trip still take place?

    August 26, 2013

    • Edgar H.

I have just sent you an email about your payment as the early-bird is still on for today! The trip will take place, so don't worry about the minimum people :-)

I payed via confirmation on the event with the Ducal Palace, so I'm not sure if I'm confirmed here as well, but anyway I'm in and see you next week! Looking forward to it!

I apologize for not having had the correct fee on The early-bird ticket of €49 is available until Sunday 25 August. If you want you can also add the guided visit to the Ducal museum to the cart there, and indicate whether you would like to add a visit to the Petruss casemates (we'll see the Bock casemates in the morning).

Problem solved :-) Just called with tourist agency in Luxembourg but they suggested to leave it up to individual travelers to check out the Petruss casemates. If you want a bit more time in the center (for lunch or shopping), you may want to skip this, otherwise you can go their on your own or in a smaller group before going to the Ducal Palace (if you choose to go there of course).

The notice says I pay for the trip at the Meetup. Is that correct? Or should I pay online somewhere?
