Kayaking Expedition to Greenland

Calling all kayakers for a once in a lifetime experience. This is one of our 2020 yearly kayaking, hiking & whale watching trips in one of Greenland’s most unique arctic environments. We go to Disko Bay which is a UNESCO World Heritage site, kayak among huge icebergs, hike to the interior, whale watch and enjoy the magical light of the midnight sun. We time the trips at the best window to whale watch. In order to enjoy the trip and the wonderful environment to the full we recommend that you have experience of paddling trips of several days duration and are comfortable paddling a loaded boat for as much as six hours a day, with breaks (though days will often be shorter than this). Winds are usually light, and if the wind gets up we stay off the water. However, if necessary, you need to feel comfortable paddling in winds which may occasionally reach Force 4. Landings can be rocky and, while the group leaders will ensure landing sites are feasible, you should be prepared for this. Journeying and camping is a fantastic experience, and can be quite hard work. If you have done it before you will enjoy the frequent experience of packing and unpacking the boats and setting up and breaking camp in different places. The duration will be 16 days which include travel from the UK. To maximise the time, the trip will take place over 3 weekends and 2 weeks, meaning participants only need 2 weeks off work. The 2020 expedition is be led by one of the UK top kayak coaches. Roger Chandler works in Anglesey and coaches and expeditions in demanding environments. He runs one to the roof of Scotland, participates in coaching in the Orkney islands and has done several arctic expeditions. You will be in very good hands and will have the opportunity to develop your kayaking skills to a new level.
