Everyone loves the West Village, with its old buildings, irregular street pattern, varied nightlife, and fun shops, but what a cool and fascinating history it has! The story of the Village is filled with literary, theatrical and historic figures, beatnicks, political radicals and folkies, along with a strong independent spirit even from its most ordinary residents. The Village is where social movements and creative expression has truly had an impact on the world! Stops include Stonewalls, celebrity hangouts, the narrowest house in NYC, hidden streets, the site of a prison, a country church, and what is still likely the world's largest artist colony. We'll end our walk in the Gansevoort Meatpacking District, which has its own interesting history, a perfect place for a cold drink after our stroll!
