  • Have you ever taken a picture of a scene that looked GREAT in real life (or on your camera back)... but when you opened the image, or after processing, the colours looked - well, just plain different than what you had in mind??

You've worked on getting authentic colours and tones, and giving them your artistic treatment.  Then you look at them on your tablet or phone, or a friends' MAC and the colours are just NOT RIGHT.

You go to print your pictures, and again, what you see in the print is a far cry from what you saw on your screen - and the skintones... ug, let's not even go there!

WHAT WENT WRONG - AND WHY?

    ---------------------------------------------------------------

Meet our special guest presenter Alnoor Meralli; one of the developers of the JPG Picture Format and an expert in digital colour training, here in Toronto.

This guy knows a thing or two about colour. Alnoor will join us to reveal the complete story of colour and demystify the colour management process - so you can start getting your images to look as you intended... and understand WHY and WHERE things can go loopy.

Your understanding of the inner workings of colour, sensors, software & printers will take a giant leap in one afternoon.

Alnoor has promised me that all your questions, basic to advanced, will be addressed. He's very interested in presenting this to beginners as a teaching challenge - give him a test!

This will be a comprehensive, content-rich seminar that will take you through the concepts of digital imaging from the time you click the shutter, to 'developing' & adjusting it in your software, to displaying it on the web or in print.

    YOU'LL LEARN:

    • How to get consistent, clean images that look great in every medium.

    • Complete control over the output of your images, as you envision them.

    • What exactly IS colour - and 'colour space'.

    • How you properly use your camera settings, right through to post-production and printing, whether you use Lightroom, Photoshop, Capture One or other software.

    • The inner workings of colour, sensors, software & printers.

    • How sensors, screens and printers 'think' and interpret colour. This will be revealing.

    • Why you should use different colour spaces - he'll definitely challenge some of what you may have read online!

    • Setting up your post-processing colours - why RGB, Adobe RGB, sRGB, CMYK, or LAB....?

    • What's an 'out of gamut' colour and how to handle it.

    • What's involved in screen and printer "profiling" (you'll get to know & understand Kelvin, Gamma, and more) with a live demo.

    • likely more!

     --------------------------------------------------------------

    What people are saying:

"Alnoor is that rare artist who can explain the science behind the art. Rather than simply prescribe camera/software/printer settings, he strives to equip you with the knowledge to make your own choices. Not only is he very knowledgeable, he's an excellent teacher with the ability to convey that knowledge."

"I'll tell you there's nothing more satisfying than that eureka moment - like opening a new Apple product. I certainly learned a few new things tonight and have already tested it out on some old pics - it's like seeing the Sistine chapel after they removed all the grime." - Martin

"Great workshop! So interesting and very well presented. Thank you Alnoor."

    "Nerd heaven!" - Ian

"Great class. Great info. Great presenter which broke down a very technical discussion into info even I could understand!"

"Ouch, my head is hurting! So much to learn in such a short time. Great workshop. Thanks Alnoor!"

"For anyone interested in learning about color management this is a terrific seminar. " - Marsha

"Fascinating to learn about colour from one of the inventors of JPEG!"

"Thanks Al, Katy, and Alnoor. Great seminar!" - Mark

     --------------------------------------------------------------

Bonus: For our break, Katy will be bringing a batch of her famous healthy muffins for everyone, and there will be no need to bring your camera or laptop - just a pen & paper.

The break will be before we get into the printer part. Anyone not interested in staying for the printing part is free to go at around 7:30pm.
