- Urbex at Historic Barnes Surface Building
Attendance is limited for this meetup, be sure to cancel your signup if you are unable to attend. Someone from the wait list will be added. Urbex, is Urban Exploration. The Barnes Surface Building is an old, unused hotel in Christiansburg, VA. 4 W. Main St. It's the large brick building in the middle of town with Antiques on the first floor. Enter under the yellow awning on South Franklin St. and walk up the ramp to the second floor. A tripod and flash will be useful for this meetup. We can try some lightpainting in a large open area as an added attraction.
- Virtual Suggestion Meetup
This announcement is for a Virtual Meetup to solicit your suggestions for future Meetups for Exposure Roanoke and NRV Exposure camera clubs. That is right, you don't have to actually get up and go anyplace to participate in this Meetup. Any time between now and the end of the month (March 31st) all you have to do is: take a look back to your favorite old Meetups then add a few comments below to suggest new Meetups that capture some of the fun of the good old Meetups. Kind of like the above photo where members of Exposure Roanoke and NRV Exposure got together for a Reunion to reminisce about the good old days (and good old Meetups represented by the photos on the posts). They suggested a number of new Meetups including one for an Urban Exploration (URBEX) Meetup in Christiansburg at the Barnes Building (where our Reunion was held). Please take a look back at some of your favorite old Meetups like this one from Roanoke in November 2011 when we went on a really fun Urban Exploration Meetup to an old abandoned railroad storage facility: https://www.meetup.com/ExposureRoanoke/photos/4464792/72886232/ Please post a few comments below to suggest how we can remake some Old Meetups or make up some New Meetups that your organizers (including Tom, Art, Jon, Curt, Sandra, and Mike) can post as future Meetups. And yes, please watch for the announcement of the first New Meetup to evolve from this effort when Tom posts the URBEX Meetup in Christiansburg in April. Thanks for your comments to help plan the future Meetups and to revitalize the fun of photography in Roanoke and the New River Valley.
- Santa Paws at Mountain View Humane Society
Join a few other Exposure Roanoke photographers as we make Santa Paws memory photos for pet owners (and prospective pet owners) at the Mountain View Humane Society in Christiansburg at their open house on Sunday December 16 from 12:00 to 4:00 pm. As you can see from the sample photo we will be shooting on a green screen to place Santa and the Pets in a wintry setting. Space is limited so there is only space for a couple more photographers. The pet owners love the photos we take and this helps the Humane Society to promote the adoption of pets to forever homes.
- Santa Paws photos at the RVSPCA Open House this Sunday
Join a few other Exposure Roanoke photographers as we make Santa Paws memory photos for pet owners (and prospective pet owners) at the Roanoke Valley SPCA at their open house on Sunday December 2 from 1:00 to 5:00 pm. As you can see from the action photo from our previous meetup the space is limited so we only have room for a couple more members to join in this meetup. The pet owners love the photos we take and this helps the RVSPCA to promote the adoption of pets to forever homes.
- Official Photographers for the 13th Annual Drumstick Dash
The Roanoke Rescue Mission loved the photos we took the last five years at the Drumstick Dash so they have asked us to come back again this year to make photos to document this year's event and to promote the festivities for next year. Here is your opportunity to get your photos published and to promote a good cause: https://drumstickdash.net/ This is the major benefit activity of the Roanoke Rescue Mission and is a major photo opportunity for Exposure Roanoke to perform a public service for the Mission. - Roanoke Hike for Hospice needs Photographers!
The Good Samaritan Hospice could really use help from 2 - 4 adventurous photographers who don't mind volunteering their afternoon to hike through Explore Park with the event attendees and take some great action shots for Good Samaritan Hospice to use in better promoting their fundraiser in the future. They would also love some good shots of all the festivities at the main event location (the historic Houtz Barn). If we have 2 - 4 volunteer photographers volunteer in advance, they will get a Hike for Hospice volunteer t-shirt as well as guarantee them food (catered lunch off the grill - veggie burgers too) and bottled water during the event. The event website is located at: http://hikeforhospiceva.com/ For further information please contact: Mary Hodges, Director of Development [masked] (540)[masked] This meetup is limited to only 4 photographers. If more than 4 want to go, that is great and you can volunteer, but I cannot guarantee you a t-shirt and a free lunch for any more than 4 photographers.
- Back To School Blast
We are looking for as many as 8 Exposure Roanoke photographers to join us for our 6th annual photo session for the Roanoke Rescue Mission "Back to School Blast" to give much needed support and school supplies to children at the Parkway Wesleyan Church. The Rescue Mission loves the pictures we have taken for them in the past 5 years in promoting and documenting this wonderful public service event. Here is a copy of their invitation to join them again this year: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Believe it or not we have started planning the 2018 B2SB. The event will be held at Parkway Church on the Mountain 8/[masked]:00p. We would love to have you and some of your Exposure Roanoke folks there if possible. You guys always do such a great job and make it so fun for the kids and their families. Stacy Boris, Volunteer Coordinator Assistant ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We will hold an on-site lesson in Event Photography to help us learn about teamwork in shooting real-time events as they unfold in this very popular Roanoke event. Please consider joining our team at 10:00 to learn about Event Photography and to provide beautiful photos with your camera (no cell phones please) that document this wonderful event. Please plan to take as many photos as you care to on Saturday. Then select your favorite 20 or 30 photos and post them to this meetup page AND also put them on a disk (in JPG format) and drop them off to the Rescue Mission front desk at 402 4th St SE right after the event or on the following Monday or Tuesday. This will allow your favorite photos to be published on their web page to show the world what a wonderful public service the Back to School Blast is and what wonderful photographers we have in our Exposure Roanoke Camera Club.

- A Challenge: Submit your Photos of our Beautiful Virginia Blue Ridge Parkway
Here is a wonderful challenge from the Friends of the Blue Ridge Parkway: "Blue Ridge Parkway Headquarters is looking for pictures taken along the Parkway in Virginia. It seems they have lots of NC photographers who submit pictures, but not so many in Virginia. Our mountains may not be as high as those in NC, but we know that the scenery is just as beautiful. So if any of your group’s photographers are out and about along the Parkway in Virginia and would like to submit their pictures, please forward them to Julie Whalen at FRIENDS. She will make sure any pictures are submitted to the Parkway. Julie’s email address is: [masked]. When submitting pictures have the photographer include their name and where the picture was taken. Thanks, Mary Ellen Belcher FRIENDS of the Blue Ridge Parkway" This is your chance to have your photos published by the Blue Ridge Parkway Headquarters. Go out and take photos along our Virginia Blue Ridge Parkway or (if the scene is not perfect here during February and March) select a few photos from your personal collection, post them to this meetup, and send them to [masked] any time between now and the middle of March.
