• Roanoke Hike for Hospice needs Photographers!
The Good Samaritan Hospice could really use help from 2 - 4 adventurous photographers who don't mind volunteering their afternoon to hike through Explore Park with the event attendees and take some great action shots for Good Samaritan Hospice to use in better promoting their fundraiser in the future. They would also love some good shots of all the festivities at the main event location (the historic Houtz Barn). If we have 2 - 4 volunteer photographers volunteer in advance, they will get a Hike for Hospice volunteer t-shirt as well as guarantee them food (catered lunch off the grill - veggie burgers too) and bottled water during the event. The event website is located at: http://hikeforhospiceva.com/ For further information please contact: Mary Hodges, Director of Development [masked] (540)[masked] This meetup is limited to only 4 photographers. If more than 4 want to go, that is great and you can volunteer, but I cannot guarantee you a t-shirt and a free lunch for any more than 4 photographers.

We are looking for as many as 8 Exposure Roanoke photographers to join us for our 6th annual photo session for the Roanoke Rescue Mission "Back to School Blast" to give much needed support and school supplies to children at the Parkway Wesleyan Church. The Rescue Mission loves the pictures we have taken for them in the past 5 years in promoting and documenting this wonderful public service event. Here is a copy of their invitation to join them again this year: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Believe it or not we have started planning the 2018 B2SB. The event will be held at Parkway Church on the Mountain 8/[masked]:00p. We would love to have you and some of your Exposure Roanoke folks there if possible. You guys always do such a great job and make it so fun for the kids and their families. Stacy Boris, Volunteer Coordinator Assistant ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We will hold an on-site lesson in Event Photography to help us learn about teamwork in shooting real-time events as they unfold in this very popular Roanoke event. Please consider joining our team at 10:00 to learn about Event Photography and to provide beautiful photos with your camera (no cell phones please) that document this wonderful event. Please plan to take as many photos as you care to on Saturday. This will allow your favorite photos to be published on their web page to show the world what a wonderful public service the Back to School Blast is and what wonderful photographers we have in our Exposure Roanoke Camera Club.

  • A Challenge: Submit your Photos of our Beautiful Virginia Blue Ridge Parkway
Here is a wonderful challenge from the Friends of the Blue Ridge Parkway: "Blue Ridge Parkway Headquarters is looking for pictures taken along the Parkway in Virginia. It seems they have lots of NC photographers who submit pictures, but not so many in Virginia. Our mountains may not be as high as those in NC, but we know that the scenery is just as beautiful. So if any of your group’s photographers are out and about along the Parkway in Virginia and would like to submit their pictures, please forward them to Julie Whalen at FRIENDS. She will make sure any pictures are submitted to the Parkway. Julie’s email address is: [masked]. When submitting pictures have the photographer include their name and where the picture was taken. Thanks, Mary Ellen Belcher FRIENDS of the Blue Ridge Parkway" This is your chance to have your photos published by the Blue Ridge Parkway Headquarters. Go out and take photos along our Virginia Blue Ridge Parkway or (if the scene is not perfect here during February and March) select a few photos from your personal collection, post them to this meetup, and send them to [masked] any time between now and the middle of March.

  • Pet Portraits at the RCACP - Pet Lovers - help dogs and cats get adopted.
Are you an animal lover? Do you love photography? Here is an opportunity to practice green screen portrait photography and do something really worthwhile for the animals. Please join us in photographing pups and kitties at The Regional Center for Animal Care & Protection (RCACP) on Sunday, 12/17/2017. We will meet at the pound and photograph as many animals as we can fit in. These photographs will be used to promote these animals in the hopes of finding them homes for Christmas. Background: RCACP is a kill shelter. They have lowered their kill rate tremendously and work very hard to find homes for all animals. RCACP works with RSPCA, Angels of Assisi, Franklin County, and countless other rescues on the east coast to secure homes for as many as possible. Between 4,000-5,000 animals are handled by the Regional Center each year. Animals are brought to the Regional Center by Animal Control officers, as strays released by the public, or by owners when they can no longer take care of them. Let's help them help the animals! We will help the animals by taking photos of the animals on a green screen background. We will then eliminate the green screen and composite their photos into a pleasing background. So we will meet on the 17th to gather photos of the pets and also to gather home photos to use as the background for the promotional photos. We will bring the green screen so bring your camera and (optionally) some jpg photos of a pleasing home scene for use as the photoshop background. Thanks for being an "animal lover" and for meeting us next Sunday December 17 anytime between 12:00 noon and 4:00 pm: 1510 Baldwin Avenue Roanoke, VA 24012

  • Family Portraits with Frosty the Snowman
Let's meetup and take pictures of families posing with Frosty the Snowman. We will take the portraits on a professional blue backdrop and give the families pictures 4x6 info prints. Let's meet at the Taubman Museum on Saturday November 25 anytime between 11:00am and 2:00pm. We will set up our portrait studio with photo lights, backdrop and printers. Sounds like a learning experience for us which is a lot of fun for Frosty and the families. Now that we had over 200 museum patrons throughout the day on Friday for the Green Screen photos. Our plan for Saturday is to drop the Green Screen in favor of a regular backdrop to expedite the processing. Thank you for your understanding...
