A Cafe-Philo Experience (episode 6)

"Cafe-Philos" have become an international thing (not quite a "sensation") in recent years, and have been a great way for people have open discussions on a wide variety of topics in a casual setting.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Café_Philosophique

Now, the word "philosophique" (philosophical) might put some people off initially, but the topics don't actually have to be deeply philosophical at all. We can actually discuss any topic, from "what is the difference between a friend and an acquaintance?" to "is dating more difficult in 2013 than it was a decade ago?". As long as the topic is phrased as a question, and doesn't involve fictional comic book characters in hypothetical duels to the death (let's do those another time).

So, here's how it'll work:
1) Everyone bring 1 or 2 topic questions (in writing) which they would like to discuss. It can remain anonymous or you can put your name on it if you like.
2) We'll put all the questions into a hat, and draw one out at a time. The question will be read out loud, and discussion of the topic will commence!
3) After a topic has been thoroughly discussed, we'll draw another one out of the hat. There's actually a good chance that we'll get to every topic by the end of the night.
---

Why do this?
This is an opportunity to try something different. Here we'll get a chance to talk about that lingering question that's been weighing on your mind, and you'll probably learn a lot about the people sitting next to you (more than just their names and occupations). It could also be a lot of fun, and the topic of the day could just be the one that you wrote. RSVP today!

It's downtown so not really. Unless you park at the casino and walk up.

Yep. Should it be all gratitude though? Maybe everyone could bring one thing that they're grateful for and one thing that they wish they could change.

Boston Pizza on Grandview Highway and Rupert area. Wanna watch it? You can postpone your dinner.

      September 19, 2013

Karaoke is at 945 so dinner cannot be postponed. If dinner ends early I may drop by, it's not far from Po Kong. :-(

I received all of your angry letters, and so Café Philo will make its triumphant return to downtown. We're gonna try India Gate because it fits a lot of people, but if it doesn't work out then we'll try something else (like going back to Waves). Joy would also like to see more "happy questions", such as her 'which superhero would you want to be real?' question from last week. So, let's be creative and come up with some fun stuff along with our deep and discerning questions about the nature of existence.

Hence, I suggested before to have multiple locations and days. I'm happy to host the downtown ones.

Hm. I guess we could even separate the 2 days into 2 different themes. Ok, we'll talk about it later.
