Some of you had the pleasure of taking part in our Christmas Delivery to a Wounded Veteran & his Family, but many of you who did as you were not members yet. I can honestly tell you that this is one of those events that we do every year that you do not want to miss. I truly feel like this is one of the most meaningful things that we do all year. During this event, we as a group will arrive to the Family’s house with Dirty Santa dressed as Santa leading the group. We will also be delivering through member donations all of the food preparation items necessary for them to cook a Traditional Turkey Christmas Dinner including even the Turkey. Then also through member donations, we will be donating Christmas gifts to the family as well. Santa will ask the children of the family to open one or two while we are there, and then we will leave the remaining gifts for the family to open at their leisure or wait until Christmas day. More details to come as we are just now communicating with the family to discuss dates and times, but once this event is posted, please try to keep this a priority as you will not forget it. I have also listed some details about this year’s family below in case any of you would like to read about his service to our country.
Andrew Valadez, a Cavalry Scout, served in the Army for more than 13 years and completed three combat tours in Iraq, was severely injured by an IED blast while on a route reconnaissance mission in 2004. After his recovery, Valadez engaged in combat operations in Abu Ghraib, Najaf, Babil, Taji as well as the second battle of Fallujah, commonly known as Operation Phantom Fury through 2010. It was during these combat operations Valadez was hit by 6 more IED blasts. Andrew suffered from severe injuries to his head, neck, torso, back, legs and eyes. After months of recovery and rehabilitation, it was determined that his combat injuries would end his career in the Army. Andrew and his wife Emily have two young sons who are Nathan (3rd Grade) and Landon (1st Grade). Andrew and his family waited for more than two years after being discharged from the Army to get into VA system. The family sold all their belongings and moved to north Houston to live in one of their parent’s garage on 2 queen mattresses and window AC. The parents are totally devoted to their sons and are really grateful for everything they have received. The family was awarded their home by the Texas Sentinels Foundation in Sienna Plantation/Missouri City on 7 June 2016.The family could use help with food, maybe a holiday meal. The boys really want bikes so they can ride to school. They also really enjoy fishing in the local catch and release pond in their neighborhood. And of course, the family loves the Astros and Texans. If any of you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to myself, Slick or Dirty Santa.
I have created a Google Doc with a list of gifts for the kids. We all have a certain amount we are able to spend. Feel free to go in on a gift with another member for any of the gifts. Once you commit to a gift let us know so I can mark that gift off.
The boys are Nathan 8yrs old and Landon 6yrs old. Feel free to come up with your own gift or gift card for them.
Here is the link for Google Doc.
