Equity Strategies for Entrepreneurs -- FairCo TEEM, 7pm October12,

From: Peter P.
Sent on: Monday, September 26, 2011 10:43 PM

For our second Meetup of the year, we’ve put together a panel who can help successful Startup founders avoid getting screwed. There are a number of early startups within our community and many more to come. Come to this discussion so you can be armed with the information you need to make informed decisions when it comes to topics like:

• Founders Equity
• What VCs and Angels are going to ask for – and what you should be prepared to fork over
• How does dilution work? Can founders avoid having their shares diluted?
• How much equity should a founder be willing to give up to key employees?
• Joining a Start-up? How much equity should you expect? What’s the best way to get equity without incurring tax liabilities?

Because this is such an important topic that can be seen from several angles, we’ve brought together a great panel that features Eric Dale of Robinson and Cole, one of the top lawyers for startups in our region and two local serial entrepreneurs, Cliff Sirlin and Michael Liebow.  We also are looking for some representatives from the VC and Angel community for the panel.  Let me know if you have any ideas.

Please join us at 7pm on Weds, October 12 for what we expect to be a lively discussion. Bring your questions as we will be looking for audience participation.  Here's the link.

Here’s a little background on our speakers:

Michael Liebow, Founder and CEO, Foretuit

Michael Liebow has successfully built organizations that uniquely address the needs of global markets and industries. As an independent Director for newScale (Acquired: CSCO), Liebow repositioned the company as the leader in private cloud computing management and automation while driving its recent sale to Cisco. As the former CEO of Dexterra, an early innovator in enterprise mobility applications, he drove its merger with its chief competitor to become the undisputed industry leader. While at IBM, Liebow ran the SOA-based IT infrastructure business and grew revenues to well over $4 billion in four years by creating a diverse portfolio of asset-based solutions and training 90,000 consultants worldwide to guide the transition. In addition, he ran strategy and market development for IBM’s Intel Server business, transforming that product line from a $900 million industry laggard to a $3 billion industry leader in three years. Earlier in his career, Liebow lead P&L/general management efforts for a variety of technology and consumer companies including PanAmSat, a global satellite communications provider to the entertainment industry, and Cadbury Schweppes, a global soft drinks company. Liebow has a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Wisconsin.

As you can tell, we've got some great people on the panel -- and we know we'll have some fantastic people in the audience.  Come join us, bring your founders equity questions. Sign up here.
