We are a fitness-oriented social group for queer bicyclists of all sorts. Let's get together to do some casual rides about town to various interesting destinations, improve our fitness and have some fun adventure/exploration and light touring in around New York City. We can also join up to train and get in shape for organized events such as Bike New York, the Tour de Bronx, Escape New York and many others! Click here (https://www.meetup.com/Fanny-Pack-an-LGBT-biking-group/messages/boards/thread/51441755) for some introductory matters! If you have any questions, ideas or suggestions for rides please contact the organizers!
Are you excited about cycling in 2019? I sure am! While the weather is just getting ready for spring, let's meet up to relax, meet, mingle, share ideas and talk about possible or planned future rides we want to do! We'll try to make this a monthly thing. This month we'll meet at the Metropolitan Bar in Williamsburg! http://www.metropolitanbarny.com
Are you ready to ride? Let's start the season off with a pleasant ride from Prospect Park down Ocean Parkway to Coney Island Beach and Brighton Beach! We'll pedal at a semi-leisurely to moderate pace and then maybe find a snack or lunch on the boardwalk before returning to via the same route and completing the Prospect Park loop to bring us back to our start point.
The entire trip is about 15 miles.
Optional: If the group is up for a few more miles, we can take Neptune Avenue over to Sheepshead Bay (a bit of traffic on the way), then head up Bedford Avenue to return to Prospect Park.
(There are also plenty of subways at Coney Island in case one-way is enough!)
What to bring: water, snacks, sunscreen, money for snacks or lunch on the boardwalk, a lock for your bike, a tire repair kit (just in case).
Excessively cold or inclement weather cancels.
Save the date! Let's ride from lower Manhattan to Riis Park, the Rockaways. This will be a fun ride through Brooklyn to the Beach. Up to 60 miles round-trip, with opportunities to bail on the subway at various points. Details to come!
Save the date! Let's ride from lower Manhattan to Long Beach/Point Lookout. It's about 32 miles from the Brooklyn Bridge to Point Lookout by this more direct route. The proposed trip is more demanding and counts as a metric century (100km/62mi) for those who care about those details. (Anticipated route is 66 miles round trip.) Plan to do this at a moderate or better pace. Plenty of opps to bail by subway (in the Rockaways) or even the LIRR from Long Beach. Details to come!
