Kirtan: Yoga-Style Group Chanting & Meditation

Kirtan is one of the most fun of all Meditation Techniques. Meditation doesn't come easy for many of us. And that's where chanting offers another method. Without the work of mentally quieting the mind, chant can carry us effortlessly to a place of quiet, to stillness. That's why chanting is often done as a preparation to meditation. LISTEN TO CHANTS Chanting is one of the major elements in what is called "bhakti yoga," or the "yoga of the heart." Gatherings dedicated to chanting are called "kirtans" in Sanskrit. Chanting is wonderful for awakening the love, devotion, and concentration of the heart and mind that is needed for deep inner experience. Monthly kirtans take place in the Detroit and Lansing Areas. Most of the chants are short, very simple, and often in English; we also do some traditional

Indian chants. Short periods of meditation are mixed in. The kirtans are free and they are quite informal, that is, you can come and go whenever you want. There are chairs provided but you are welcome to bring a cushion or bench and sit on the floor. This kirtan goes from 7:00 - 8:30PM
