It's easy to get lost in the many particulars of modern-day slavery and lose sight of its root causes: a culture that accepts women as objects to be bought and sold, the ready market for cheap goods and labor, and the poverty that creates a pool of ready victims.
Looking into the 13th Amendment to the US Constitution (abolishing slavery in 1865) brought me to the issue of this shameful trade still flourishing in our midst. What I have learned shocked me! This site has many links to great information. Join!
Social activist and product of the '60's. It's appalling this issue still exists and is tolerated right under our noses. Effective action is only possible through an aroused public.
Hope to be counted among those who did not stand silent.
Elie Wiesel: "I swore to never be silent whenever and wherever human beings endure suffering and humiliation. We must always take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim, silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented."
