Let's watch 12 Years a Slave at Sun Ray Cinema!

This movie has received rave reviews and was ranked the #1 film in Indiewire's Critics Poll. It starts at 4 PM. A synopsis of the film is as follows:

In the pre-Civil War United States, Solomon Northup, a free black man from upstate New York, is abducted and sold into slavery. Facing cruelty at the hands of a malevolent slave owner, as well as unexpected kindnesses, Solomon struggles not only to stay alive, but to retain his dignity. In the twelfth year of his unforgettable odyssey, Solomon's chance meeting with a Canadian abolitionist will forever alter his life.

This was an excellent production, gripping, well-written, brilliantly acted and definitely a strong Oscar contender. Not for the faint of heart, but that was to be expected.

Brutal movie to watch but it was worth watching for some terrific performances.

Yep. Parts were almost too much for me to take, especially knowing they were based on actual events. None of us can know how we would have dealt with having to live under such horrid circumstances. It's easy enough to say, "oh, I would have just rebelled and run away" without thinking that chances were very strong that you would have been captured and hung at the nearest tree with a convenient branch for hanging.

Sorry I can't make it to this one but didn't want others in the group to miss out on seeing it.
