Reading Film Theatre - I, Daniel Blake

  • Reading Film Theatre

Palmer Building, Whiteknights campus of Reading University, Shinfield Road, RG6 6UR, Reading (map)

    51.440570 -0.947119

  • As this is a School Night this Meetup is for the film only. If anyone fancies a drink and a chat after the film then there's a bar on campus that's open to the public that we could go to.

Meet from 7.30pm to 7.45pm for 8pm start.

    What's the film about?

Ken Loach notches up another Palme d’Or with his latest, maybe his last, film – an uncompromising and universally powerful view of the effect of “Austerity UK” on ordinary folk who find themselves on the wrong side of bureaucracy.  Those of us who can afford a cinema ticket may never find ourselves in such straits, but we should stand as witness to the picture of social ills that Loach draws from real-life incidents.

    Directions

The Reading Film Theatre website has information on how to get to the Whiteknights campus by car or bus, as well as a map showing where the Palmer Building is located on campus. You can find that information here

    Where to Meetup

As you go into the Palmer Building you'll see a staircase approximately in the middle of the room. Just to the left of the stairs is the entrance to the Film Theatre. Let's meet just to the right of those stairs.

You can find out more about the Reading Film Theatre via their website:

Less than a week to go! Once again, if you're at all worried about it selling out then please feel free to buy your ticket in advance. Saving £3 on the ticket price is a nice bonus, but it wouldn't be worth missing the film for!

I still plan to buy my ticket on the evening, but I certainly don't mind paying the full £8 as opposed to the group discounted rate, if everyone else has bought in advance.

Although the maths suggest that unless 6 people leave it until the night you won't have enough for a group. I'll be buying my ticket in advance as I don't want to miss out.

The RFT have kindly offered us a group rate of £5 per person, as long as there's at least six of us in the group, and only if we buy our tickets together on the evening.

However, they also expect the evening to be popular, so if you're at all concerned about it selling out then please buy your ticket online in advance. The online price for non-members is £8.
Online tickets can be bought via http://readingfilmtheatre.co.uk

I'll be buying my ticket on the evening, but please don't let that influence your decision.

This could be a popular film - there's not many screenings of it being shown- unfortunately! Mark - do you think advance ticket purchases might be advisable - just a thought!

Hi Elaine, I agree that it will be popular but I doubt it will sell out. Having said that, if you'd prefer to buy online in advance then I won't try to persuade you not to.

Hi Claire, I'm hoping to get a group rate but I need to check with the guys at RFT to be sure. Once I know I'll post a message here. Tickets are available in advance but they will also be available on the night too.
