What we're about

We're a friendly casual Meetup group of people who enjoy the media or mediums of motion pictures, film, animation, and videos as a springboard and catalyst for more formal discussions. Selections are suggested by members in person and are generally not restricted: art house to mainstream, silent film era to present day, almost all genres. In general, our Meetup events are for discussion only. Think of us as a book club style meetup for film. We try to get suggestions for screenings at least a month in advance and post them to provide as much time as possible to view or review selections.

Please feel free to peruse our Google Doc which has the list of things that have been suggested with completed ones highlighted in blue:

Come and See (1985)

Online event

Often held up as a counter-example to the notion that there's "no such thing as an anti-war war film", Elem Klimov's Come and See tells the story of a young partisan fighter in Nazi occupied Belarus, 1943.

Come and See is known for its intensity. (director Klimov claimed that they had to have ambulances on standby at theaters when the movie was premiering. This may just be a director's bluster.) I want to put that out there as this will definitely be a "viewer discretion advised" entry in the Film and Forum canon.

I have a copy of the movie to borrow if need be, it is available from local libraries, and it can also be found in full on YouTube here:

*** NOTE TO NEW MEMBERS *** Please watch the movie before the meetup. Information to help find the films will generally be posted in the description or in the comments on the webpage. During the meetup itself, we discuss the movie, but we don't watch it. It's a book club style movie group.
