4:30AM - Phantom Lady (1944) Phantom Lady is a crime drama film noir directed by Robert Siodmak starring Franchot Tone, Ella Raines and Alan Curtis. This is Siodmak's first Hollywood noir. It was also a first for producer Joan Harrison , Universal Pictures' first female executive, who was Alfred Hitchcock's former screenwriter and went on to produce his TV show Alfred Hitchcock Presents. The film was based on the Cornell Woolrich novel of the same name (which was published under the pseudonym William Irish)
Robert's Note: Superb cinematography by Woody Bredell. Character actor Thomas is outstanding in the role of Police Inspector Burgess. Watch for the scene where drummer Cliff Milburn (Elisha Cook, Jr.) takes Carol "Kansas" Richman (Ella Raines) to a jam session in a jazz dive!
