What we're about

"If we know how to live our daily life in mindfulness, concentration, and harmony, then peace, happiness, and brotherhood become a reality." – Thich Nhat Hahn Finger Lakes Mindfulness Meetup is a new group of individuals interested learning and practicing mindfulness in their day-to-day lives. We will practice mindfulness inspired by the teachings of Thich Nhat Hahn, Jack Kornfield, Tara Brach, Joseph Goldstein and many others as the group decides. Our goal is to learn to better take care of ourselves to encourage happiness, awareness of the present moment, and contribute to building a healthier and a more compassionate society. Our community is focused on practice and not on beliefs or ideology. We welcome the participation of people from all backgrounds, regardless of ethnic origin, race, cultural background, socio-economic class, age, gender, sexual orientation, religious affiliation, or physical ability.

Vipassana Meditation - The Art of Living

Skaneateles Library

We will discuss the 3 practices that make up Vipassana meditation, as taught by S.N. Goenka and his assistant teachers, that will lead you to a life of peace and happiness. Then there will be a chance to ask questions and if you are inclined, you may request being taught the first of the two meditation techniques called Anapana Meditation. And we will sit together. All that come are asked to only practice Anapana or Vipassana Meditation during the session. Check out a talk that S.N. Goenka gave to the United Nations for an introduction to the method. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P97criit1qI&t=2s Here is a nice introduction to read if you would like more information before attending. https://www.dhamma.org/en-US/about/art And the website has much more information about the technique and location of meditation centers around the world. https://www.dhamma.org Free and open to all. May all beings be happy, peaceful, and liberated from their sufferings.
