We practice meditation exercises that focus on the energy (or vital) body. These are suitable for everyone. They are, however, especially helpful to people experiencing depression.
🔴 WHY “FIREFLY”?
Just before he died, Buddha told his disciples to “Be A Light unto Yourself!”, asking them not to look outside for solutions to existential problems, but to look within. The firefly, by carrying its own light, exemplifies Buddha’s teaching and serves as our inspiration.
🔴 SO IT DOESN’T HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE CULT TV SHOW “FIREFLY”?
🔴 SO, IS THIS A TREATMENT FOR DEPRESSION?
No! Please do not quit your meds! Do not stop going to your doctor/therapist! This meditation is an educational, self-help activity. Harvard Health magazine says that meditation can really help people with depression. But follow your healthcare provider’s advice.
🔴 DOES THIS GROUP HAVE A RELIGIOUS AFFILIATION?
No, we are not affiliated with any religious or spiritual organization. But we reserve the right to borrow from all spiritual traditions! Our meditation exercises are drawn from, variously, Buddhist, Yogic, Taoist, Christian, and Hindu-Devotional traditions!
🔴 SO I DON’T NEED TO BELIEVE IN ANY GOD, PERSON, OR DOGMA?
No! Belief is not necessary. Trust is.
🔴 THIS IS FREE, RIGHT?
Yes, it is free. But we will keep a donation basket around if you feel an inner urge to share the cost of this service (rent, meetup fees, etc.)
🔴 WHEN AND WHERE DOES THE GROUP MEET?
We plan to meet every Saturday from 11 AM to 12 Noon at A Center for Relationships in Old Town Alexandria. Street parking available on that and nearby streets, some free on Saturdays. (The place may not be available some Saturdays when the Center needs it for their purposes. We will skip those weeks.) Please always check this website on the morning of the meetup day! Thank you!
