Flagler Audubon Society welcomes all nature lovers to come learn about birds and conservation together. We offer monthly educational programs, bird walks and field trips. All events are open to the public, and most are free. Visitors are always welcome, especially beginners!

Field Trip: Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge

Meet at the visitor center at 9:00 a.m. and drive from there to the world-renowned Black Point Wildlife Drive. We hope to be lucky enough to spot rails and Roseate Spoonbills, but are sure to observe a variety of duck species such as Northern Pintail and Blue-winged Teal and many wading birds. We will also stop at Scrub Ridge Trail to observe Florida’s only endemic species, the Florida Scrub-Jay, up close. Dixie Crossroads is a favorite for lunch. Those who wish to may go to other locations on the refuge after lunch - this is a location worth spending the day at! Cost: Black Point Wildlife drive entry fee (unless you have an annual pass) - pay at gate or buy pass at visitor center eBird: 253 species Accessibility: On Black Point Wildlife Drive, we will mostly bird by car - getting out briefly at various viewing locations. Scrub-Jay Trail is a 1 mile loop, grassy trail. ABOUT OUR BIRD WALKS/TRIPS Walks are held in parks around Flagler County; trips are out of town. Beginners and nonmembers are ALWAYS welcome. Experienced guides will help you see the birds and explore varied habitats. Free unless noted.
