An 11 mile hike southwest of Flagstaff, through the pine forest along the rim of Sycamore Canyon, passing Sycamore Falls and a rock climbing area along the way. The trail is generally flat, but very beautiful!
The trail is an 11 mile loop with access at several points along it. The southern and eastern portions of the loop follow the rim of Sycamore Canyon. The northern and western sections travel through ponderosa pine forests. Watch for rock cairns and small signs. Sycamore Falls is a popular rock climbing area.
Meet at Walmart on the Westside at 8AM to carpool, or if you wish to drive direct, here are the directions to the trailhead:
From Flagstaff drive west on Interstate 40 to Exit 178 for Parks Road. Head south on Parks Rd. which turns to well graded dirt after 2.7 miles and eventually becomes Forest Road (FR) #141. At the 9.1 mile point you'll arrive at a 4-way stop with FR 131 heading left. Stay straight at this intersection onto FR #13 which is somewhat rougher. Follow FR #13 for 1 mile then turn left onto FR #56. In 0.3 miles you'll reach a large parking area on the left. Park here.
