Using Vault to Better Protect your Secrets with Bryce Verdier

About this presentation:
All developers have seen it and few will admit to doing it: putting unprotected authentication credentials like usernames, passwords, or cloud service authentication keys into application code, scripts or Ansible playbooks. We do this because it saves us time and effort. Add in external source control tools, like Github, and the risks of these credentials being publicly exposed increases.

One solution to this problem is HashiCorp Vault, an open source and enterprise service for managing secrets and protecting sensitive data. I’ll show you how to set up a server, how to migrate secrets into the service, and how to use this service in Python script.

This presentation is intended for cybersecurity practitioners and developers of all levels who are interested in a better way to manage their secrets.

Meet our Guest Speaker:
Bryce Verdier has been in the industry for over 20 years. He is currently a Senior Software Engineer at Groupon, specializing in both information security and automation. In previous roles he’s also been a Systems Engineer with a DevOps & Security focus.

Disclaimer: This isn’t a sales pitch, and I am not affiliated with nor sponsored by HashiCorp. I do think this application is a good solution and more people should start using it.
