This is a meetup for guitarists and other acoustic instrument players who would like to play folk-rock, acoustic rock and acoustic blues. The meetup serves to develop and refine the skills needed to play these genres along with others and foster musical partnerships. This is also a valuable opportunity for players to get comfortable playing songs they've worked on for others. The minimum skill level recommended would be late beginner with some chord knowledge/dexterity, and good rhythmic fundamentals; intermediate level players are the target group.

The musical range will span from the acoustic songs of Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Leonard Cohen, Joan Baez, Rev. Gary Davis, Jimmy Buffet, The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Rolling Stones, etc., to more recent folk and acoustic rock including Natalie Merchant, Tom Petty, John Mellencamp, and JJ Cole. While the technical skills needed to play this genre may seem modest, the goal will be to play with solid musicianship. Complementary instruments (ie, bass, violin, mandolin, ukulele, harmonica, etc., ) are welcome.

There will be 3 types of sessions: the more frequent session will be based on songs proposed by members which allow development of skills and styles. We'll review approximately 3 to 6 songs in detail and pay attention to the requisite musical elements; in addition we'll also 'jam' on additional songs to develop spontaneity. A second type of session will be our recital showcase sessions, or "flash mob" appearances, these will be a great chance for members to develop performance skills in a friendly setting. These will occur every 3+/- months. Our third type of session will be traditional song circle sessions, with a request to propose songs in advance so we can get familiar with them in advance if desired. Let's have fun playing great music together!

PS- if you RSVP for attending, plan to come, or communicate asap and cancel RSVP if you are not planning to come. The slots are limited and sessions are held in a public place where space may be at a premium, so your courtesy is appreciated. Membership will be revoked for not adhering to this policy.

"I am bass player and recently moved to Port Orange from Socal. I've played with a blues group in L.A . and in San Diego. I'm not a professional musician. I took up the bass because I just love playing."
